Separate Xbox Live from Microsoft Account

So I'm getting divorced and my now ex husband and i have always shared one Xbox account attached to my Microsoft account, no issues. But I game very little and he wants to keep all his progress and saved data and downloaded games and everything. He wants
to keep the Xbox Live account we've been using, but change it into his email. But doing that changes MY Microsoft account that i alsio use for work. Is there any way around this? To let HIM keep the Xbox Account without ME loosing MY Microsoft Account? Thanks!

Purchasing An Xbox Live Gold Membership

I found this on Microsofts official XBOX LIVE site. Direct link It looks like you can add existing users to a primary account. I would ask them if, this is the case "Will my account be pro-rated for the money I already spent on the separate accounts." I hope this works, it was just an idea I thought of.

Short answer, no. Your Xbox account and Microsoft account are one-and-the-same: it is an account owned by an individual and not designed to be shared. You can either:

Keep the Microsoft account and make your brother's console your home console so he'll retain access to games licensed under your account.
Give him the account and create a new one for yourself, making your console his home console so you'll retain access to games licensed under the original account.

If you give him the account, just be aware that you can't move the e-mail address to your new account straight away. He'd need to create a new address/alias for the account, make that alias the primary address, then remove the old primary address (now alias). After that the old primary would be unavailable for 30 days. After the 30 day grace you should be able to add your old address as an alias to your new account, then make that the new primary address.

I say should because I've seen a number of people complain that this hasn't worked out so caveat emptor.

Hi, unfortunately, there is no way to separate an Xbox account from a Microsoft Account.

Each Xbox Live account must be attached to a separate Microsoft account. They can't fall under the same one.
