Separate lobbies for Xbox One Backward compatible and XBox 360

Backward compatibility is a fantastic thing without doubt breaths life into the old games but it has a huge problem.

It has come to a time where all of the backward compatible CoD games are being ruined because of hacked xbox 360's.

Backward compatible should be forced to have separate lobbies for those playing backward compatible on an xbox one and those playing on a 360. We bought the latest and greatest xbox and want to play our old games, so why should be have to put up with hacked
360's destroying our games?

I have had my prestige's removed and stats reset to a point even though I prestige I do not get the prestige icon, others have had their squad points set to minus numbers so they are unable to prestige, buy weapons.

This is specifically in Ghosts, which is the Cod with the least hacking problems, but it is growing. In the past few weeks I have seem more confirmed hacks than in the previous six months.

I know separating the lobbies to keep the hacking scum away from decent players with reduce the player count, but will it really reduce the player count more than the hackers do?

Personally I think if people have the confidence they are not going up against hackers they will play the game more.

Oh, and before it gets mentioned, Yes I mean hackers ( people using 3rd party software installed on their xbox 360 to mess with the live files during game )

Thanks for making MW2 backwards compatible....but when are you going to do something about all the hacks and mods that still work on the 360 console....?? A great game is RUINED by hack lobbies and infection lobbies. How about banning 360 consoles from
playing in the same lobbies as xbox one consoles....??

If you are playing an Xbox 360 game through the Xbox One's backward compatibility feature, you are able to play it online.

While playing the Xbox 360 game online, players on both Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles would populate the same servers and lobbies.

As a sidenote, the Xbox 360 version of GTA V is currently NOT backward compatible with the Xbox One.

I understand your frustrations with this, but understand, what you're asking can't really be done.

When your Xbox One runs a Xbox 360 BC game - no matter what game that may be - The Xbox 360 emulation software believes that the 360 game in operation is running on an actual Xbox 360. It doesn't even know what an Xbox One is. There is no way to change
this behaviour without the original developer making a dedicated Xbox One version of the game. When Microsoft make the games BC, they don't change any of the game code, indeed, they wouldn't be allowed to, it's not their game.

It's not a simple a task as you may want to believe.

I understand it isn't easy, but when they make an emulator maybe it could give an indication it is an emulator which could be picked up by the game master servers ( just a thought ).

Or even better.. The original xbox online service lasted 8 years 2002 - 2010

As it happens Cod Ghosts is also an xbox one game, but there are more xbox one users playing it as BC, then there are actual users playing the xbox one version.

Maybe this is due to it being the first CoD which was on xbox one at the time when xbox one was very new so many more people had xbox 360's and purchased that version then refused to buy the new version when they eventually moved to xbox one (perhaps that
could have been handles differently allowing a free upgrade to xbox one version but Activision greed would have stopped that being possible).

Myself and a few friends have both versions of the game, but we are still being forced to play the older version because the xbox one version is ridiculously priced on digital (I am sure this is Activision greed here) and hard to find in used game shops,
so some of our regular players either can't afford or can't find the xbox one version.

Maybe this should be more directed towards Activision and Infinity Ward, it's their game, they should fix the issues and start banning the hacks, if a game is still live and online I think there should be some kind of law saying it must be maintained correctly
and not forgotten about.

Or at the very least they should provide a way for a user to completely reset everything to default or maybe to a previous date on their servers so if some hack does mess with stuff at least the user can get back to a fresh start or where they were at last
good point. I would rather start again from scratch again than have what I currently have.

After all this, Ghosts has the least hacks out of all of the cod games,that is until Infinite warfare, which was the first Cod to only be on the latest consoles.

Hi! As mentioned this most likely won't happen as this would require the games developer/publisher to make changes to the games code which Activision probably won't allow them to do.

 

Just to close, I would like to add an extra's bit of info and and FYI

Firstly, if you turned off the matchmaking for Xbox 360 games, this would effectively break multiplayer for Xbox One BC. Like I said, each game would have to be done again to make them Xbox One Software. Far too expensive, not going to happen.

And secondly, the FYI. The biggest issue with the older Call of Duty games is that they don't use dedicated servers. A lot of users are unaware of this. Yes, there are COD 'servers' for these old games, but interestingly, they aren't used to host matches.
All they are used for is matchmaking and keeping track of progress.

As in all multiplayer games, users sign in to the game as usual, chose a game mode and are matched to other players. So far, so standard. But, instead of a dedicated 'server' hosting a particular match, the game chooses a player in the lobby, and their
console hosts the game. So, if the player has a modified version of the game, everyone in that match will also become infected with this version. The only way to stop this is to patch the game. Problem is, patching costs an awful amount of money. Why patch
a five or ten year old game?

The good news is that this should be less of an issue with the newer COD titles. They don't user the above multiplayer model, instead using dedicated servers. Dedicated servers make lobbies with mods almost impossible. EA for example has always used dedicated
servers for its multiplayer games. Hence why eight years on, Battlefield 3 is still highly playable.

I was aware of the way the servers worked, which was why I mentioned master servers, meaning matchmaking servers.

This "listen server model" is the system which allowed the hacks to work as the hacker must be the host before they can do some of the nasty crap they do which can't be guaranteed in general multi player games.
