Selling Xbox One, advice required.

As per the title, I'm wanting to sell my X1, however, I'm a bit confused about the digital content part of it as there's contrasting pov's all over the net.

If I were to sell my console, would the buyer be able to access the digital games? I have no intention of handing my gamertag over, but according to some discussions I've seen, the aforementioned content is linked to both the console and gamertag, so I'm
assuming if I don't wipe them from the console and the console is set to home console, a new gamertag would have access. Is this even allowed?

Selling digital titles is not allowed. Take the loss and just sell the console. You as a user do not have the right to transfer a digital license to another user. Like others said its against TOS. It may work technically but you can get in trouble and that
person still doesn't own the license.

Yes do a factory reset to remove your personal information. The only way to remove your account is to do a factory reset.

 

If the console is set to home console, you can leave the digital games on the console without your gamertag and the person buying it will be able to access them, I did this when I sold my Xbox One, and tested it using their gamertag and mine was removed
from the system and it worked.

 

Would that not fall under marketplace theft? Plus if you ever mark another X1 as home those games would then not work.

 

No idea, hence why I'm asking if it's allowed. It's not theft selling on physical games, so I'm assuming it probably falls under the same laws. As for the home console thing, I don't actually plan on charging the person extra for the games, I just think
it's a huge waste of money if no one has any access to them any more. After all, I wouldn't pay someone extra for digital content if I were buying a console from someone.

 

You're not allowed to actually sell digital content, because it's still attached to your account. As said above, they can access it if you leave the console set as your Home console but if you were to ever set another One as your Home or they get a new console,
they will lose access to the content.

 

I'm not selling the digital content on, I just want someone else to have access to it rather than no one having access to it ever again. Like i said in the post above yours, I wouldn't pay extra for a console with digital content on it, so i wouldn't expect
anyone else to pay me extra for it.

Yes, you would be able to do this. I've done the same test that someone else mentioned above. AS long as it's set as your home console, the person buying it would be able to access all games on the drive even if your tag is gone.

It's a great incentive when selling a console. Having a half dozen good games gives the buyer an instant collection. Although they would lose access to the games if you picked up another console and set it as the home unit.

Reset the console to factory defaults. You're asking for trouble if you give them the console without erasing it.

Thanks for the info, folks! Really appreciated. I would be selling it to a good friend (someone I've known for over 30 years). I don't have a credit card attached to my account (or if I do, the one i used years ago on my 360 will have expired), I just
want to keep my gamertag as i still own a 360 and may re purchase an X1 in a couple or so years down the line.

If he was to sell it on, I would ask him to factory reset.

 

Why are you selling your Xbox One, let me guess, not that many good games for you?

 

I've never been so underwhelmed by a console since buying a Sega Saturn many, many years ago. The Xbox One has come of the back of the 360, that along with the SNES is my favorite gaming console of all time, so maybe no console was going to live up to expectations.
Both technically and gaming wise, it's lacking imo. The games market is currently being flooded by rehashes and to me, that says more about the current state of the consoles than anything i can conjure up. I know we're relatively early into this gen and
all new gens begin slowly before the good stuff comes, but even looking a year down the line, it's all looking decidedly average.

The only exclusive i can honestly say I'm looking forward to is Scalebound. I'm not a Halo or GoW fan, so I have nothing much to keep me interested. Gaming wise, I much prefer my 360, it's no contest.
