Selecting Audio Input Device on Xbox App (Android)

I regularly use the Xbox App to join Party Chats.

Typically I like to use my Bluetooth headphones so that I hear the audio directly in my ear, and so I don't inadvertently cause echoing for the rest of the party. (The mic on my headset is also less sensitive, and I prefer that).

The Xbox App used to provide the ability to choose which input/output device to use for audio. There was a drop down menu where you could select

    "Speakers" (Speaker Phone)

    "Headset" (Connected Bluetooth headset, etc.)

This menu no longer seems to be available.

Was this an intentional removal of a feature? Is there a different way to access it now?

It was a super useful feature, and without it I'm limited to using my phone mic and speaker phone which causes horrible echoing in the party chat.

Ahead of time, thank you for the help!

    :)

Selecting Audio Input Device on Xbox App (Android)

It did work for me in the past when I was able to select the device explicitly, but now even when my headset is connected, Xbox App audio goes through my speaker phone.

I have at least one other person I know who is experiencing this same issue (I have a Pixel 2, he has a Pixel 3).

Is this an appropriate forum to request features being reimplemented, or to report bugs (such as the bluetooth device not being used for audio?).

I reinstalled the app and gave it permissions for "Audio" when prompted.

When that didn't work I also explicitly gave it permission to "Phone" and "Storage".

Oh yeah that's a big difference. I believe it was removed as it is just set to use whatever the 'default' is... so as long as blue tooth is active it should work.

I know for me it works.

Thanks for the reply, the question is specific to the Android Xbox App. I should have specified that, sorry!

I see the drop down under Settings and I can select any output connected to my laptop/PC at this moment.

I need help with xbox game bar echo?

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.

I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today despite this frostbhyte

Have you tried "Format" for your Microphone in the sound settings for your input device?

    Go to your Settings

    Navigate to Bluetooth & devices

    Select Devices

Scroll down to Related settings and select Sound

Select your audio input device under Input.

In the next menu, you should see Format under Input settings. Select an audio format that's no higher than 48000 Hz (DVD Quality)

Try joining a party in the Game Bar or the Xbox app to verify whether or not the changes solved the issue. If that doesn't work, try adjusting the audio format by repeating the steps above to verify if any other format works.

    Also, verify this:

Open Xbox Game Bar > Go to Audio widget > Select the Voice

Change Windows default input to the headset or microphone you'd like to use.

Change Default communications input and output to the headset or microphone you'd like to use.

Scroll down to More Settings > Xbox Party Chat

Change Audio output and input to the headset or microphone you'd like to use.

Verify that push to talk is not enabled

    Finally open the Xbox app

Click your profile icon at the top right corner of the page

    Select Settings > Audio

Set your default Input device and output device to the headset or microphone you'd like to use.

Verify that push to talk is not enabled again

Please also double check if you have audio enhancements enabled, if yes disable it.
