    My gamertag is nuckes365 but I've been trying to get my preferred account (Nuckles) for awhile now. The account has been seeming inactive since the Xbox 360 time and I know that there is a 2 year wait until they
    delete inactive accounts. I was wonder if ant staff or moderators could let me know of any information I should know because they seem to have been inactive for a few years.

    You can change your Gamertag at any time. You will be given a numerical suffix to distinguish you from anyone else with the same tag though.

    Inactive gamertags are released offline after 7 years
    that was changed a while ago, it was 5 years now its 2 years of account inactivity, basically microsoft account not signed into for 2 years straight.

    gamertags are associated with there respective microsoft accounts, if the mocrosoft account logs in to say windows it is also using xbox services and therefore will remain unavailable. if you dont see activity on a profile that is because they can be using
    that account on multiple different microsoft services.

    also privacy settings can be enabled which stop you from viewing the profile too.

    It may of started out as an account used on xbox but is now being used elsewhere on one of Microsoft's other services.

    If it says the tag is taken then there is nothing you can do other than get that tag with numbers after it.

    As from August 2019 if a tag does not sign in on any Microsoft service for 2 years it may be freed up so the earliest this tag might get released is August 2021.

    The account has an xbox profile and 5 friends tied to that account, so I believe it's for xbox and not some other platform.
