Security proof problems with an old phone number and being outside of my country.

This is quite a complicated situation I find myself in. I'm Canadian, though I am at a friend's house in England. I'm in the middle of a work exchange in Germany, so I cancelled my Canadian phone and number. So, I decided it would be fun to download my profile
to play some ranked playlists on Halo together. I go to download my account, then it gives me error 80151012. I figured initially that it would be some things involving security proofs, with Microsoft thinking that perhaps a hacker on a different continent
wanted to steal my account. I checked out the different procedures to fix it on the website, and here's where it gets annoying.

My Canadian phone number is cancelled, so security proofs with that can't happen. I decided to add my German phone number as security proof to be able to access my account, and now it says that the new information will replace the old information only in
a month, unless I find my old security information to verify it. This would involve sending a text to my old Canadian number, which doesn't exist anymore. What's more annoying, By the time the new German phone information replaces the old phone, I'll have
just returned to Canada and will have to restart this whole process. I have no idea when security proofs became so ridiculous. There's no other verification info that I can send to. I can't even change my password for my e-mail account tied to Xbox Live without
    needing a verification proof.

I wanted to get the opinion of the forums to see if there's anything at all I can do, before I have no other choice but to contact customer support. Thanks for the help.

    :)

    Pretty sick of.....

I recommend taking a look at the following page: support.xbox.com/.../lost-proofs

It will walk you through updating your security proofs (such as the phone number you mentioned) or deleting invalid proofs (say, if your phone number is different now). Let us know if you're still having any problems.

I've already tried validating my security proofs, there is no selection that says validate, only remove for old ones, and add for stuff like a new phone number.

    Hello,

First of all I don't think Microsoft Support Agents should come to the assumption of someone hacking without solid evidence that there has been unauthorised access on the account. I also disagree with security proofs are not ridiculous, it's inconvenient
if you're skipping from country to country, it's merely their security procedure which is why I'm suprised they would have been able to get round your security proofs, so that in it's own sense doesn't make me think your account got hacked.

You can try your luck at the Microsoft Windows website to see if they can help you at:

    windows.microsoft.com/.../get-support

If they cannot help you, then you may just have to wait out the 30 day.

    Best of luck,

    Daniel

  5. Microsoft usually request that you have two security proofs on file for this reason, a phone and an email that you have access to. If you can not access either one, then that's when the 30 day waiting period starts and there is no way around that unfortunatley,
but after that 30 days, make sure you update your proofs with at least another email that you have access to to avoid this happening in the future. Security proof problems with an old phone number and being outside of my country. :)

    Account changes

If you click the link in my previous post it takes you to the number for your country/region. I know you can't use the contact us option due to updating your security proofs.

The reason they gave it a month to change the security information is for unauthorized access cases. They can't tell when an account has been taken due to an old e-mail possibly being compromised. The only way you'll be able to cancel your subscription is by
    contacting phone support directly.

Why does it take 30 days for my account information to be updated or to add a subscription?

Did you get a code to your old Security proof?

Or did you update the old security proof to your new phone number and they sent a code to it to verify you have access to it?

If it is the second one then you will have to wait the 30 days.
