Security lock on account because of information change.

Just wanted to download The Witcher 2, yet had to receive the game via Xbox.com rather than straight from my Box. While attempting to access my account on my smartphone I was repeatedly told that my password was incorrect. I tried changing the password by
adding a phone number to my account but that only locked it for a month for security reasons. When i tried logging on via my laptop the exact same password worked on the FIRST try and I was able to access my account, yet the security lock still remains for
an entire month. So now I can't download The Witcher 2 as it leaves the store in 2 days and my account is locked. Please tell me how I can unlock my account in time to enjoy this wonderful game promotion. I have the correct password and any other needed information
to prove I am the account holder.

Changing my nephews Microsoft account

One important thing to note is that certain actions invoke a 30 day security lock out on accounts. While in this lock out you will be unable to make certain changes to accounts including changing the Microsoft Account. You will still be able to use the account
normally, you just can't make further changes for 30 days. This is to help protect accounts, if someone should steal your information and start to make changes there is a one-month window for Microsoft to be able to stop them before everything gets changed
and there is no more information on the account to prove you own it.

One of the things that can create the 30 day lock is one you create a new Microsoft Account. You can use the new MA to make a new gamertag, you just can't move an existing gamertag to the new MA.

Right now it certainly sounds like your nephews account itself may be in the 30 security lock, but of course it could also just be the new account you created.

so in short you can't access your security settings etc, due to a no longer in use Phone number, Correct?

If so, then please see the steps on this link:

That option will allow to remove all security options, but keep in mind that it will lock you out for certain settings for at least 30 days, this is a security measure.

My assumption is that you won't be able to change the setting you like for the next 30 days, but after that it should be possible.

Hello!

The message you are seeing is normal since you no longer had access to any of the security information on your account. This security measure prevents others from taking over your account by changing the security information. The wait time is indeed 30
days, and your new security information will automatically apply to your account at that time. You'll receive an email when the change is complete.

If you do have access to the prior security info, you can cancel the change and that will allow you access to your account again. Otherwise, you will need to wait the full 30 days as that cannot be overridden by anyone.
