You can share Xbox live on the same console only as far as I know.

Here's how it works... an account can only designate 1 console as it's home console. All games as well as live for that account are shared with all users on that console (without the account needing to be signed into the console). If the purchasing account
is on a second console, the second console has to be connected to Live, and the purchasing account must be logged in in order for the account's purchases to be shared with users on the second console. The items are only shared while the account is signed in.

For exanple, if Account A has the games and gold, it will need to make Console B it's home console. Then all accounts on Console B can play and share Account's A's games. Then Account A can play on Console A (provided the console is connected to the
Live servers) without needing to be logged into Console B.

If one boy is on console B (and it's your account's home console), then your account will need to be signed into console A for anyone else to play your purchased games on that console.

Gold Sharing will only work if your Son is signed into your HOME xbox.

If you set your Sons Xbox at school as your accounts Home xbox you should be able to share gold with him however gold sharing on your own xbox would stop working

Your sons will get to use the online functions on your "home" Xbox without you needing to be signed in, on the second Xbox that is not set as your home Xbox you will need to be signed in for them to use live.
