Second hand (pre-owned) Xbox One Fifa bundle (Error code 0x803f8001)​

Hi,

I hope someone can give a simple answer to this, as I've trawled the Internet but can't get a clear answer!

I bought a second have xbox one with Fifa 17 bundle from eBay. The previous owner removed his account but left the game installed and gave me the Fifa key card. When I try to run it I get "Do you own this game or app? (Error code 0x803f8001)".

So the question is: Is there a way to transfer the game to my account or reinstall with the key?

Most things I've read talk about setting "Home Console" but this won't work as it's now my gamer tag not the original owner.

What's strange is he left several games installed and all give this error except Battlefield 1, which I'm able to play. I'm only really interested in Fifa though, so would like to play it.

Accidently deleted Fifa 16

I recently purchased a Fifa 16 Xbox one, pre-owned. They game me the card that had the code for Fifa 16, but it says already redeemed! How can I recover the game??

 

Just realised it was a free weekend on Battlefield 1, so that explains that!!

What's likely happened here is that the original user set that console as their "home console", which means any accounts created on it after will be able to use digital games purchased or redeemed by the original owner. That will work up until the original
user removes the console and sets another one as the home console. To answer your question, It's not possible to transfer the game license to another account, so you'll need to purchase the games either digitally or physically via a disc to continue playing.
