I would recommend trying to return it to the store before contacting MS for an exchange. You'd get the replacement quicker.

What happens when you connect the other controller on your Series S?
And, is your Xbox console already set as home Xbox? (This allows you to play the game without internet/offline)

Go to settings > general > personalization

Update: On the efootball world tab > select authentic team logo (match) > once there select trial match > Press A on the second controller, select a profile and you're good to go

Have you tried creating a second profile for the second controller and then signing in with the second profile using the second controller?

I meant "....each time the issue was with the second controller." not second connect controller.

sounds to me someone is playing a prank on you!, but as cRaZyLIZARD76 suggested, asking your neighbour would be the easiest option.
