Seagate USB 3.0 3 TB hard drive

so I bought an external hard drive and my xbox one will not recognize it and keeps saying that it needs to either be USB 3.0 or above 256 GB. My hdd is USB 3.0 and has 3 Tb of data. I talked with support for over an hour in which we were not able to fix
it. I hard reset, power cycled, partitioned my hdd. And tried every other USB port. The thing I want to know is if I should just return the hdd because my xbox cant recognize it. Xbox one console

External Hard drive

Any USB 3.0 drive with 256GB or more of storage should work with the console. I use a Seagate 3.0 TB external drive and it works flawlessly.

It does sound as though there is an issue with the drive itself. You could either try reformatting it on the pc before attempting to use it on the console again or return it for an exchange.

At least hooking it up to the pc would be a good place to start to ensure that it does actually have the size listed.

 

I tried it on my laptop and it works perfectly. It has 2700 Gb of data when I check it as well as it was formatted to begin with. One of my buddies online has the exact same one and his doesn't work either.

 

well I returned the product but does anyone know of a hard drive that will be accepted by the console that is preferably over 2 TB?

Perhaps the Seagate hard drives themselves or that particular model is not.

 

I use one of these - WD MyPassport 2TB - Amazon mainly because it doesn't need its own power supply so it runs off the USB port. Works great with the Xbox One.

 

Seagate does not work with Xbox one, as I've just been informed via live chat. Thanks Microsoft for wasting my money. Unbelievable. Furious.
