Seagate External HDD not recognised by Series X

I have recently purchased the Seagate "Game Drive for Xbox" 2TB Portable HDD. It is 3.0 USB and the box states that it is designed for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

This does not appear to be the case. I plugged it in, the white light comes on but the Series X does not recognise it. I have tried in all 3 USB ports, rebooted, restarted and tried the fault finders within this forum.

I don't own or have access to a PC so cannot format it and then again, I shouldn't have to do that.

There is no options within the xbox settings to format, rather a lame duck.

Is there anything else that can be done or is it a matter of returning it to Seagate?

    :)

Thank you. This was one of the troubleshoots I did but to no avail.

I have since plugged the HDD into my old console and was recognised straight away, so was able to format it. Plugged HDD back into Series X and was recognised straight away. I moved a game across to HDD but it didn't load, so moved it back to the console internal storage where it worked.

Loading new game to HDD and will try moving and rebooting to see if it works.

    Yes but you forget

The compatible is for storage not for running xbox series x or s games it's nowhere even close

The limit of any external drive is 500mbps as per the limits of usb 3

the requirement for an xbox series x or s or optimized or patched game is 4.8gbps

Because you are bypassing theeverything but the north bridge

Vs usb you have to go thru the USB host controller to pci to the southbridge then northbridge

No hdd or ssd will ever come close to nvme because it's sitting right on the north bridge and direct access to cpu gpu and memory

There is talk of nvme controllers that will accept ssds but it remains to be seen

The limits of that is what cable you are using

Nvme cards with direct access to the bus same with nvme sticks

The beauty of nvme cards is thqt they are hotswapable

Seagate "Game Drive for Xbox" 2TB Portable HDD. It is 3.0 USB and the box states that it is designed for Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.It works if I download a game direct to HDD but it won't open games that I have moved across - not optimised. Optimised game downloaded direct, does open and play.

First if it's an xbox series x optimized game moving it to an external drive won't work

Only bc titles that arent patched can

You can look at your library to see which ones are optimized or patched for the fps booster

Only the external nvme for series x Seagate cards work with optimized games

    Hi,

Can you tell me the model of the drive?

Most external drives won’t work on series X/S consoles due to transfer speeds.
