    Seagate External Hard Drive - Xbox One disconnecting - Possible Solution


    Hey guys! It is just a heads up of what has worked for me. It may help some people with the same problem.

    As many other users have experienced, my Seagate Xbox branded External Hard Drive (4TB green) would never keep a game without crashing or disconnecting. I’ve tried everything: cleaning memory, power cycle, changing ports, formatting and nothing worked. Before checking Seagate’s testing tool or ditching the HD, I decided to use a cable from another drive, my personal Seagate External Hard Drive 1TB 2015. (Black). Apparently, the cable is the same, even the style number. I tested using the back USB port and voil ! Playing MW on Xone X for hours and noting disconnected.

    If you haven’t done this before, I strongly recommend. It had never worked before on both my Xs and now is all good. ����

    Hi there,

    you said, you ran Diagnostics, was that Windows diagnostics or a tool specifically from the external hard drive brand itself?

    If it's a Seagate drive then you can find tools here:

    Also be sure to try and see if there is a different behavior when the game is installed on the Xbox One's hard drive, to determine if it's console related or not. (Make sure the external hdd is disconnected at the time when you try and start the game)

    Thanks for the reply! If you are still experiencing the same issue after going over the solution provided on the articles, it may be a possibility that some troubleshooting needs to be done on the external hard drive.

    XboxOne stopped detecting the external hard drive

    I recently had the same issue. I was using a Seagate 1TB external hard drive. The xbox itself may not be the issue. It could very well be the hard drive itself. I plugged mine into another xbox, it did not read, also plugged into PC, did not read.
    Possible the hard drive may have crashed and may just have to buy a new one.
