Seagate External hard drive turns Xbox off

If I leave my seagate external hard connected it shuts down my Xbox before I get to the dashboard. So I connect it after my Xbox is on the dashboard but my Xbox doesn't detect. And when I think it does detect the seagate then the Xbox box turns off again.
Anybody have similar problems or solutions?

Thanks for posting here on the Xbox forums. Mimori has you all set here on how to troubleshoot this issue. Definitely check out that link.

In addition to that article and suggestions, you can also try replacing the USB cable that is used with your hard drive. A faulty cable can cause many issues with the hard drive and devices it connects to.

Not a problem Fito 510, did you already follow the troubleshooting steps in the article? Some users have been reporting errors with a recent system
update, so please make sure you've checked that's gone through. To do this go to
Settings > System > Updates, if one is available download it and try again.

If you already have updates installed, and you've tried all the troubleshooting steps listed in that article I'd recommend you try a
Soft Factory Reset by going to System > Settings > System > Console Info > Reset Console > Reset and keep my games & apps. Note: You won't have to re download any games or lose any of your saves as long as they were completed while
online.

Only recently has my hard drive been turning my xbox off. It has been working fine these past 4 years I used it for this xbox.

Hello Fito 510,

Can you tell me a little more about the hard drive your trying to use? For instance, does it meet the following requirements:

Uses a USB 3.0 connection
Has 256 GB or larger storage capacity
Has a partition (You can check your externals manual for partitioning an external hard drive)

If your console meets the above, there a few solutions you can try. These can be found in the:
Troubleshoot external storage detection article.

This article recommends to:

Check for System Update
Adjust the power management for storage if you're on instant-on mode
Try a different USB port on your console
Power cycle your console
