Seagate external drive (2TB) has stopped working.

i can't get pass step three, as it just takes me back to step two. by that, i mean that a data error pops up (error: data error (cyclic redundancy check)).

Coincidentally I too had a similar problem with my 2TB Seagate external. I was running it on the back of my Xbox One X. Every once in a while my Xbox wouldn't load right upon powering up. Unplugging the drive and starting up without it plugged in always
fixed the problem. Then the Xbox eventually stopped recognizing it all together. I followed the same disk management steps Oynx posted above (that's great advice) and it worked for me until it happened again. Then I ran disk management again and fixed it.
Worked for another month or so and the Xbox stopped recognizing it again. It was a pain in the neck because I always had to reinstall the games but then I couldn't even get my PC to recognize it. The same disk management steps that always worked
just don't anymore. For me I suppose it's time to replace the drive.

i tried to fix it on my PC, but i get stuck due to the cyclic redundancy check data error.

Please try power cycling the console by holding the power button on it for 10 seconds till it shuts down. While it's off unplug the drive and plug it into a different port.

If you need to reformat your external hard drive on the PC please follow the steps below to have the PC recognize the drive.

1. On the PC go to the Start Menu and type Disk Management in the search bar then press enter. If any pop up come up just click Cancel

2. Search for the drive on the list. It should have a red arrow next to it and say that it's not initialized

3. Select Initialize in the pop up menu. Don't change any info on the next menu

4. Right click on the drive and select New Simple Volume

5. Click next on all screens until you see Finish. Click it

From here you should have a notification that you've connected a new hard drive. You can now find it in the PC folder, right click on it and select Format. I would recommend unchecking the option for the fast format and let it do a full one.

One final note. If you do not see an option to Initialize the disc right click on the drive and select Convert to MBR. Others have luck in selecting this option to have the disc be read by the console without reformatting it.

I use the same drive on my XBOX and I have had issues with mine before. First thing is to remove it and connect it to your PC and see if the computer recognizes it. If it does, then I would do a hard reset on your XBOX and then try to reconnect the drive
back to your XBOX and see if it recognizes it. If the PC doesn't recognize it, try changing the cable and see if that works. If the PC doesn't recognize it either, try changing the cable and see if that helps. If still no response, could be that the drive
has been corrupted or just failed. If you believe its failed, if it's still under warranty, send it back the Seagate for repair or replacement.
