    seagate 4TB not recognized

    Hello,

    I have this external drive:

    http://www.seagate.com/ca/en/extern...-drives/expansion-hard-drive/?sku=STBV4000100

It works on my PC no problem, but the xbox one does not know it exists. Plugging it in does nothing. I have tried:

    * all the steps in the official troubleshooting guide

    * All USB ports on the xbox, hard reboots. ( it is fully updated also )

    * formatting the drive clean

    * removing the existing NTFS partition completely.

    this is the drive:

    http://www.seagate.com/ca/en/extern...-drives/expansion-hard-drive/?sku=STBV4000100

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    :)

It seems that not all Seagate drives are compatible with the Xbox One console. I have seen several posts from others in the past that have issues with that brand of drives.

Is it possible to return it for an exchange to another drive?

    that's disappointing.

Do you have any idea if it's an incompatibility with the drive or the xbox firmware? If it's the firmware it might be patched in an update..

I could look into returning it, but I am now just curious about the cause of the issue.

I'd say this has something to do with the drives out of the box configuration. Have you tried hooking it up to your PC to see if the drive is recognized? If it is, does it have the latest firmware? and is it formatted with NTFS?

You could also try out some of the troubleshooting steps found in the link below to see if you can get your Xbox to recognize the drive.

Hope this helps seagate 4TB not recognized :)

I am having the same issue with a Seagate 3tb external desktop drive. Why wouldn't it be compatible?

Is the drive completely just storage or Does the drive have a reserved partition that attempts to install any software when you connect it to your PC?

yes it is completely just storage. I've re-partitioned it as GPT and MBR, both configurations failed to be detected.

Having looked into this a bit more for you. I'm at the point in believing it might have something to do with the cluster size on the disc. Your external should have been detected and formatted by your Xbox One straight out of the box. If this isn't happening
then something has gone wrong somewhere and the Xbox One hasn't been able to format the disc correctly. I see you say you will look into the option to replace it. I would do that.

I hope that may have answered your enquiry about the cause. As I say, it might be the cluster size, it might also be something as simple as a dodgy usb3.0 cable.

Acronis Disk Director will allow you to format the drive to FAT32 and 32 Kb cluster size aka allocation size... this allows for the device to be seen as media drive on the Xbox 360... it is worth a shot to try this for the One. If you get it to work as a
media drive on the One please let me know as I will promptly go purchase it.

Note: With a 2TB and smaller drive you can use as both media drive and part of the space as storage for the Xbox 360 (up to 32GB). With 2TB+ you can ONLY use it as media drive. I do not know how you intend to use it but keep this in mind.

I did figure this out even know it was a year ago I'm going to reply. What you have to do is go to settings, click system, manage storage, you should see the hard drive on the right the rest explains it self.

Got one for ya. I had a Seagate external HDD ( 2TB ), used it since they first announced the external storage, no problems! Then, last week, the Xbox wouldn't detect it. So after trying everything, I bought another one, a Western Digital 2 TB 3.5" internal
with a USB 3.0 docking station. It worked great, picked up on the Xbox quickly. Now a week later, it's doing the same as the first one, no longer detecting, if I'm lucky, I can turn it off and back on, then it works, SOMETIMES. I have over 75 games on my account,
that's a lot to download and re-install all the time. Another thing I might add, I just got into the preview program 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking that might be causing the issue. Anyone else have this problem, or even a fix?
