    Seagate 2.0 TB external hard wont reformat from media device.


    Bought an external hard drive because I ran out of room on my hard drive, but whenever I plug it in it registers as a media device. I've tried plugging it into my pc and reformatting it, but I still comes up as a media device. I've tried on my xbox to reformat
    it but theirs not even an option to do that. Anyone have this issue and know of a solution?

    XBOX One Media Player

    I have a 2 TB external hard drive from Seagate that I use for video file storage. When I plug the drive into the console it is recognized and it says at the bottom "external storage device detected; hold X to launch". When I hold the home button it launches
    the media player but then the media player says "no storage device detected". Is there a size restriction for media player that is causing my hard drive not to be recognized?

    Ps: the drive is formatted FAT32

    Seagate 2.0 TB external hard wont reformat from media device.

    Are you formatting it into FAT32 or NTFS? Xbox only supports FAT32 as far as I know.

    Same case, solved:

    I've bought a Seagate SSHD 3.5' 2TB and i've connected it to the XBOX via a SATA to USB 3 adapter. Disk was recognized, starts and appears as a media device.

    Format option was available to make it as an application disk but it was aborting each time after formattng has began.

    After some tests on my computer, i've found : USB 3 power is not enough for a 3.5' HD working hard. Adding a 12v DC 2 Amps to my SATA/USB adapter solved the problem.

    I hope it helps.

    Addendum : Before connecting the disk to the XBox, if it was used in a computer before, use diskpart command :

    diskpart

    select disk X (find the number in disk manager)

    clean

    I am also having the same problem. I bought a brand new Seagate 3.0 USB 2 TB external hard drive, even formatted it on the computer, and the Xbox says "External Media Storage Ready" when plugged in.
