    Seagate 1tb expansion drive crashing XSX on boot up


    I have the XSX seagate expansion drive and every time my xbox boots up with the drive slotted in it crashes my xbox. It then reboots and loads normally. If i take it out it doesnt crash. I exchanged the first one because i thought it was possibly defective
    but it still crashes woth new one slotted in. Anyone else having this issue and is there any fixes for this?

    Xbox 360 won't boot with USB external hard drive connected

    I have the same problem with my Seagate 1tb drive also. Just unplug during boot up, after the dash come up plug it back in and it will work fine.

    I think what is happening is the 360 is trying to read and index all the files on on the 1TB drive during boot up and being such a large drive takes awhile and bogs the system down, if you unplug it while the screen is frozen the boot will continue.

    Getting this issue swell with a Seagate 1TB Expansion Drive and a Sandisk 32gb USB pen.

    Can't even watch a 45min episode without getting the "device is unavailable" error 3 or 4 times.

    I just wanted to post a follow-up, as I've had a chance to experiment a bit since my original inquiry.

    I am now successfully using the following 3 drives on my Xbox Series X:

    1) 1TB original internal drive

    2) 8TB Seagate external drive (model STDT8000100)

    3) 12TB Western Digital D10 Black external drive (model WDBA5E0120HBK-NESN)

    Hope this is helpful for anyone considering adding external drives to their XSX set-up.
