Sea of Thieves Parent had to pay again

My son has Sea of Thieves installed on his Xbox and is currently his fav game. So he wants me (Dad) to join him so we can play together as he lives away during the week. As I am disabled I cannot get to the Xbox in question and he is only 11 with no other
tech savvy people in the family.

We have family MS accounts with me as the parent and him as the child. I also have XB Gold on my account by monthly subscription. We both have our accounts on the Xbox as well.

So I went to Xbox Console Companion and tried to play the game. (Note son had downloaded it digitally on his child account). And it asked me to pay again which I reluctantly did as it was half price. But now from reading forums it seems I didn't have to
pay after all.

It's too late now but for the record what did I do wrong? How do I avoid this in future? Can I get a refund?

I was guessing it was something like that. Yes the parent account still exists but I load him money every month so he makes his own purchases and I just get notifications on what he has bought.

So in effect the child is now sharing back up to the adult. Or trying to!

Anyway sorry to continue the thread but when we played together one of us got kicked out. I worked out it was because I was still signed in on the Xbox. I got him to sign me out and now he gets a message saying he needs to buy Xbox Gold before he can play
and he is upset accusing me of breaking his game and Xbox. Of course Xbox Gold is on the parent account not his.

Funny thing if he plays as me (parent) and I play as him (child) it works!!! But now he is angry at me as he has lost all his progress and in-game purchases.

Will it fix it if I try and talk him through making the Xbox the home Xbox
for both our accounts? And then sign my profile off the Xbox?

Sorry this is a long problem but he is getting upset with me over this.

Hello I'm Daniel,

One of the best ways to avoid this situation is having a parent account on your son xbox where you can do all the purchases on, with doing that there won't be any mishaps. There probably was one becauae as you said you ourchase the game on your son account
so when you was using your account now a problem perhaps occured where they showed for you to purchase again even when you didn't have to.

Not a bad mixpot for a small show i take the gears pop any day won't play sea of thieves again. I know you get both but still don't want to play sea of thieves again.
