If I don't notice screen tearing, is it happening to me?

@Xenomorph I prefer the saying "if a man speaks his mind alone in a forest, does he still get in trouble with the missus?".

  5. Still do not notice screen tearing while I am playing my games.

Just because you don't notice it doesn't mean it isn't there.

    Just because it's there, doesn't mean it's a problem.

Just because it isn't a 'problem' doesn't mean it is something that should just be ignored and left go. Ever heard of QC?

You have to really sit there and be looking for things to nit pick about to come up with something like this to complain about.

Oh please... I noticed it before I even knew what it was. That's what prompted me to look around on these forums and see if I could find out what it was. Funny how I could be nit
picking and looking for something I didn't even know existed before I saw it.

When I am playing my games, I am focused on my game.

So am I...that's how I noticed the screen tearing. Maybe you should focus more?

    I am enjoying my game.

Me too, much more often than not.

I am not looking for stupid *** like screen tearing and guess what? I don't notice it.

It may be 'stupid ***' to you, but if my 360 never did this and my X1 does, then I'm going to look into it. That involves participating in discussion threads like this one. The
graphics displayed on our next gen systems should be better and have fewer display discrepancies than the previous one, not the opposite. Simple as that.

Good for you if you don't notice it. Maybe you're one of the fortunate ones who has a setup that doesn't get it... or maybe you just don't see it. That doesn't automatically invalidate
those who do. I guess if you're just here to make statements that are proof of your arrogance, ignorance and/or complacency, then you're definitely doing an awesome job. You must have worked hard at it... I bet you could use a break for awhile...

Totally believe screen tearing is happening just played titanfall on my mates xbox and noticed it when he played, did not see it when I did, but when playing your looking at different things Screen tearing proof for the naysayers - direct Game DVR recording from the Xbox One :) he also has a Samsung LCD TV 50" full HD. I checked settings
and turned off smoothing, and sharpen effects and it did help a bit. I wonder if lag shows it up more, can't find link at but I know there is a site that shows display lag of tv's.

  7. Well, I finally saw some of that screen tearing yesterday that you guys have been talking about lately (not that I didn't believe you). It's actually not that bad though - it's annoying, sure, but it's so quick it's virtually gone in the blink of an eye.
This, now that I've seen it, is a minor issue at best. Sure it would be nice to have it get fixed, but I won't lose sleep over it either.

The reason the DVR picks it up is because the gpu renders whatever was in the frame buffer when the tv refreshes and without Vsync there's on guarantee the buffer won't have two halves of a separate image.

No TV/monitor will fix it the end.

Thankyou for showing all the bots that screen tearing is a major problem on xbox one and titanfall. Screen tearing was also a problem on allot of 360 games which typically tore instead of dropping frames where as the same game on ps3 would drop frames but
    maintain vsync.

Its why i liked gaming on my PS3 more due to most games being triple buffered and so eliminating screen tearing.

I was hoping the X1 would finally have games which had better image quality but i was wrong, so far anyway.

I am so disappointed with Titanfall, screen tearing is some thing I HATE SO MUCH, its ruins the graphics of a game badly, i would prefer the frame rate to dip a little but what's worse with titanfall is not only does the frame rate dip like crazy allot of
the time, vsync is also dropped allot and so screen tearing is introduced, This game was clearly rushed and not optimised.

The OP done a good job showing the tearing and this should shut up the bots who deny it exists.

This has nothing to do with t.v's and is a engine level problem, and respawn needs to sort it.

Its funny because allot of my casual gamer friends never used to notice tearing in games and used to tell me "what are you talking about?" until i educated them and showed tearing to them and now they hate it too and spot it in games.

I suppose for some ignorance is bliss? its sad to see a supposed next gen console perform so badly, i own and game on all platforms, PS4,X1,WiiU, PC and all consoles of yesteryear, so i am not biased! yes i have preferences but i am far from a fan boy.

This game is awesome but its technical problems ruin the experience big time!

I hate those fan boys who keep claiming it does not exist, when it clearly does!

Digital foundry show the frame rate problems and tearing in their videos the best.

I have found setting the X1 to 720p resolution and rgb limited and the pixel bit rate to 24bits and also setting the console to 50hz does reduce tearing and frame rate drops.

This must be because the console is having to work less hard and is only needing to render the game at 720p while your tv does the scaling to 1080p which for me is better since i have a top of the range Sony bravia tv and the scaler is FANTASTIC! the image
pops better and is more sharp and crisp, compared to setting the x1 to 1080p which makes the image more blurry.

But setting the black levels rgb range to limited does make it to washed out, so some will prefer to leave that set to full range for deeper blacks.

And 24 bits per pixel is fine since everything is made this way and nothing is higher then 24 bits for commercial use yet.

And lastly the 50hz option which i dont even think matters its more for tv in the uk because its broadcasted at 50hz instead of 60hz like in America but either way i found the game tears less when its set to 50hz.

Give it a go people and see if it improves for you, i personally like to set my x1 to 720p, 24bits per pixel, rgb range to full since i prefer the darker blacks and the 50hz option on!

Maybe its the placebo effect but i defo noticed the tearing allot less and the fps seemed to dip allot less.

Please i would appreciate if others would try these settings and see if it makes a difference for them.

yes every platform has tearing etc its not specific to x1 or 360. But what i meant was allot of 360 multi plats last gen like skyrim has tearing while the PS3 version did not but the PS3 version had worse frame rate so its a trade off.

PS4 games do have tearing i admit that, for instance call of duty ghosts on PS4 has tearing but it bear minimal and hard to notice but it is there.

If titanfall tore like cod ghosts on PS4 then i dont think anybody would care as much but it dont, titanfall tears ALLOT and is very noticeable.

Killzone shadow fall runs flawlessly and looks great on PS4 the single player is native 1080p and frame rate fluctuates between 50fps and 30 fps but it has no tearing.

Not sure about multi player but i never noticed any tearing, uncharted 2 and 3, the last of us, all were tripple buffered with no tearing.

What am trying to say is why a game which is near enough 720p native cant hold a locked 60fps without tearing and dipping frames in beyond me!

And its not the X1, the console is more then powerful enough its clearly the bad optimising and the ancient source engine they used for titanfall.

Infamous second son is native 1080p at 45fps most of the time with a open world and still is never tears, so what am getting at is titanfall is obviously rushed.

Its such a shame too the core game is awesome and i am sure the sequel titanfall 2 if on PS4 will be light years better and i bet even the X1 version will be better too.

Screen tearing is one of the reasons why i became a pc gamer, on pc at least you have the choice to drop shadows effects, texture quality etc and to choose vsync on to eliminate tearing.

On X1 we cant do that, actually on consoles in general.

I wish they wouldn't have picked a odd resolution and just kept it at native 720p and just worked on getting the engine to lock vsync at a steady 60fps.

Tearing destroys immersion! and pulls you out of the experience.

I get pretty bad tearing on trials fusion at the top of the screen, gets annoying and distracts me from the game.

Well exactly duffel it is small and I hardly notice any more. I just hope they figure it out and I'm sure they will on future games. It def isn't a deal breaker IMO.
