Screen goes blank and sound goes off on Xbox One S

My son has an Xbox One S and about a month ago it stopped displaying the screen and sound completely. We did a reset and tried a different TV and HDMI cable and managed to get it working in 640 x 480, but it won't display in a higher resolution. Not ideal
but at least he could play games.

Yesterday it happened again. We moved it to the main TV in the house and did another reset. Again it will only display in 640 x 480 but it intermittently goes blank. It will display for a minute or so, and then 30 seconds, then 3 or 4 seconds then it seems
to go off. It seems like something then resets and it goes back to displaying for a minute and we go round the loop again. Its completely unusable at the moment. He's spent a lot of birthday money on games etc and it's disappointing that he can't play them.

Initially I thought it was a hardware issue, but the symptoms above seem more like configuration settings to me. If the HDMI port was faulty I dont think it would display at all. I've made sure the software is updated on the Xbox and the TV and have tried
all the things in similar posts and nothing is working.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

The Xbox Ambassadors above did provide a helpful link which I recommend that you follow in order to troubleshoot this.

Additionally if you are wondering
how to change the display resolution for your TV on Xbox One I will provide these steps here as well.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select System.
Select Settings.
Under Display & sound, select Video output.
Select TV resolution, and then select either 720p, 1080p or 4K UHD, whichever is best for your TV.
Note If you don't see the resolution for your TV, make sure to set TV connection to HDMI

Please go ahead and give these steps a try and let us know if you are able to get the image displayed correctly!

Occasionally my screen goes blue (blank) when clicking on a feed item for example.

I use the TV remote to turn TV off then on and it returns to normal.

If you check the link M3tal Daz3 provided you will noticed it states to turn TV on first, then AVR if using, then turn on XBox last of all. This is best practice.

If you provide more detail about your setup and settings we may be able to help you further.

Could be a range issues...

Firstly I'd swap out your HDMI cable and see if that's the issue, then to be sure it's not the TV itself, try your Xbox on another TV.

If neither of those work, then it's likely a faulty graphics adapter in the condole and you'll need to send it in for a repair. You can do that here:

What kind of connections do you have on your TV?

Do you own another HDMI- or a component-cable?

Try to use each of them and check out if they will work.

If not, the console might be broken and you could request a repair.
