    Screen goes black when Series X connects via ARC using new Sound Bar


    Hello,

    I recently purchased a TCL soundbar to use dolby atmos and I have been in love. The only frustration is that my picture on my Vizio TV goes dark although I still hear audio. This will happen usually in a game moreso than Netflix but the issue has occured in both videos and in gameplay.

    I have my Series X routed to the TCL soundbar, and the TCL is plugged in to the correct HDMI ARC input on my Vizio.

    When I am in a game, the screen randomly goes black (backlight still on like it is trying to show me something) and when I hit the xbox menu button, to go home, it then will all show up again. Even then, I try to get back into a game and it will black out.

    I am not sure what is wrong. I have changed to the fancy rose gold plated monster HDMI cables and still I am having these issues and I cannot identify if this is a TCL, Vizio, or Xbox issue.

    This is my first sound bar, so it could be a user error but would someone have any ideas of what I could do to help?

    I also have the same setup. Xbox Series X conneted to Samsung TV via HDMI. Samsung TV connected to a Klipsch sound bar via HDMI ARC. Experiencing the same issue described by many others.

    Found this:

    1. Update firmwares for TV, XB1S & Sound bar.
    2. XB1S HDMI OUT (to TV) goes to Sound bar HDMI IN. (DOES NOT GO TO TV)
    3. Sound bar HDMI ARC OUT goes to TV HDMI ARC.
    4. TV AUDIO set to PCM. TV VIDEO set to ARC.
    5. Sound bar audio set to HDMI IN. (NOT HDMI ARC)
    6. XB1S Video set to 4K UHD.
    7. XB1S Audio set to ATMOS.
    *Most importantly, XB1S HDMI OUT (to TV) DOES NOT GO TO TV, BUT GOES TO Sound bar IN! XB1S HDMI IN Should NOT BE USED!

    You say the TV is connected by arc to the sound bar. What is arc? Perhaps that is the problem. Is there a way to connect the sound bar directly to the TV?

    It seems that your TV supports Audio Return Channel (ARC). However, on the TV's specification page I don't see if it supports Dolby Atmos through ARC.

    If your TV is capable to send Dolby Atmos via ARC, you'd connect your Xbox to a 4K capable HDMI port OTHER than the HDMI ARC port on your TV.

    You will then get 4K resolution on the TV screen, and the TV would "forward" audio via the Audio Return Channel to the sound bar. If supported, this will then be Dolby Atmos.

    It seems that the Soundbar doesn't support 4K pass through. So either you would need a new TV that supports Dolby Atmos via ARC, or a new soundbar or AV receiver that supports 4K video.

    Audio set up issues

    I’m very happy with mine too, however, when I use the sound bar for pass through and select arc I get no sound or picture and have to run it through the hdmi option. If I connect the Xbox to the tv hdmi 2 and then the sound bar to hdmi 3(arc) I get picture
    with no sound despite all settings suggesting that it should work. If I use an in built app on the tv and watch it through arc it works perfectly. All mildly frustrating.
