Scratchy/Distorted System Sounds after Summer Update

Hi,

I'm having scratchy/distorted system sounds sice the summer update. Like when selecting an app or moving through the system settings and selecting things... the vrooooom sound after selecting something and confirming. kinda hard to describe. the sound works
fine in game and using apps for video. the problem is only the xbox system sounds.

anyone else having this issue ?

i remember having this way back when sometime but then it got patched or something ? don't know. I had it one the original xbox and it's on my xbox one s too.

hope it's not just me and an system update issue.

When I first started up the Xbox, it would give me an E106 fault code and not boot, after installing updates via USB the Xbox did boot, but with very scratchy colored lines, distorted sound and flicking black screen. NO it is not my TV or HDMI cable.

Please would someone shine some light on this, I really don't want to swap back hard-drives.

 

Strange scratchy sound

Alright, so! I decided to invest in an Xbox One just a few days ago with the $399 model. And, I don't know if it's just mine or if other people have had these problems, so... here goes!

Firstly, My console has this odd scratchy sound to it which, in my opinion, sounds like a bad hard drive. It's really odd... If the console is turned on but idling on anything, and by that I mean it's not playing any games and i'm giving it any input through
the controller, this odd scratchy sound comes from my xbox... I can actually be looking at achievements for games, and while i'm focused on one "scrhscrhscrhscrh" but if I hold the joystick either way to scroll through, pure silence. I just hear the fans running
and it's a nice dull hum as i'm assuming it should be..?

Secondly, it just acts weird. I have powered it down all the way multiple times and cleared the cache... but sometimes If I decide to launch games and apps and then go to back out to the guide, it'll launch Netflix. Or, when I put in a game disc that's already
installed and everything It'll go to the game graphic as usual when it prepares to launch said title, and then instead of moving on in to the game, it just goes back to the home, and I have to boot the game again and it goes to the image as it prepare to boot,
as if I didn't already.

My guess is this isn't normal and I plan to take it back and exchange it, but I just want to make sure I'm not being overly critical of it... and I don't want to have to take it in only to have them say, "oh, there's nothing wrong with this one"

Sorry to hear about the audio issues on the console. Please take a look at this guide and let us know if it helps out with this issue.

Troubleshoot sound on your Xbox One console. If not, can you please provide some more information on your setup? Are you using just the console with the TV or are you also using a Sound Bar or other Audio System.

the problem I have is not listed in the guide you posted.

My Xbox is connected via HDMI to directly to the TV and i use the Headphone audio output from my TV.

 

I have the same problem when using a headphone through the controller headphone jack.

Does your sound work okay when using the TV audio? If you have a controller with a headphone jack does that work okay? If yes to both of those then it's either how your TV is passing the sound through the headphones, or it's an encoding issue that would
likely need to be patched in a future update like you mentioned. As to when would be hard to say. Microsoft patches little things like this pretty often from what I've seen.

 

Just saw your other post. Does it happen with more than one headset?

 

yeah. I tried 3 different heaphones with the controller jack. and it even seems worse through the controller jack.

 

on very low volume it's hard to hear. the louder you go the more pronounced the distortion gets. it's strange it only affects the system sounds. games and movies work like usual.

 

Interesting, and is this same thing happening when you're hearing the audio from the TV's speakers? Or is it just when you're using the headset. Which headsets are you using as well?

 

same thing with the tv speakers ( i have to turn the volume all the way up to 100 to hear it because the TV speakers aren't that clear with in themselves ), same with my stereo speakers ( Samson Media One 4a - can hear it on normal volume settings ). tried
two Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro ( one is around 2 years old, the other is half a year old ), and same thing on the Xbox One Stereo Headset.

Tried all headsets through the controller audio jack and the tv headphone audio out.

 

update:

I had a chance to try out my brothers xbox one. same issue. so it has to be the sound decoding. i hope it gets fixed.

If you go into Settings > Display & sound > Audio output. What are your settings for HDMI and Optical audio if you're using that option. Does changing these settings help with this audio issue?

 

hey, everything is up to date. I manually check regularly. and as I said. my brother has the same issue. other controller, other sound system, another tv... I'm pretty sure it's a sound code issue, as I also mentioned i had this problem a long while back
and again after the first big dashboard update...

but most people clearly don't hear it. no replies other than yours

I can live with it. would be nice if it get's patched out someday.
