Saving games and clips to external HDD

Discus and support Saving games and clips to external HDD in XBoX on Consoles to solve the problem; I bought a seagate HDD thinking I can save my games on it AND game clips.     Saving games and clips to external HDD


    I bought a seagate HDD thinking I can save my games on it AND game clips. I wanted this so I could free all space on xbox and get longer clips. But now I have it and I can only save games to HDD. Is there a external hard drive that will allow me to save
    games/clips to it? Or do i need 2 HDD? Why does Microsoft do this?

    AFAIK, game dvr saves are stored in the reserved part of the internal HDD. That internal storage space is limited so to allow extended clips the option to use an external HDD was added however it can only be used with an NTFS formatted HDD. An NTFS formatted
    HDD cannot however be used to save games and apps which need an Xbox format so you will need to chose between the two usage cases or add a second external HDD if you wish to have both external games/apps storage and game dvr clips.

    First sentence says I bought a HHD. I have a 3tb xbox seagate external hard drive.

    Formatting Hard Drive

    The Format Hard Drive function is also there so that you can format external USB 3.0 HDD's with the appropriate Xbox partition for saving games etc. By default, a new external HDD would come with a FAT or NTFS partition which cannot be used for installing
    Xbox games. A NTFS partitioned external hard drive can be used however for extended Game DVR clips.

    you got an external HDD with USB 3.0 (or better) that you can use to test if the game clips record properly onto that? (You have to change the HDD recording location to the external drive in order to test this). It might help to decipher if it's an issue with
    your Xbox's hard drive not saving the clips or if it's something else
    I don’t have any external HDD. But worked great on xbox’s hdd
