Save option failed....

I have an xbox 360. The game is Assassin's Creed 2. All prior saves were fine.

I logged into my profile started the game and saw my save file was gone. A day or so after the last regular save. I then restarted and saved it again but the same thing happened.

I've now gotten "save option failed. The storage device containing the gamer profile in use has been removed"

I tried clearing the cache, deleting my profile and restoring it, removing the USB HD, and selecting a new storage device but NOTHING works. I lost 3 months of play.

I can log into my son's profile and save a session from there. My profile says session, session, session...instead of a save file. It seems like it saves (triangle with exclamation point in center screen) then nothing.

It doesn't seem to happen for brotherhood, revelations, or black flag. It went from normal saves to no saves.

If removing and adding the profile to the console did not work, I would suggest you to uninstall the game, perform a power cycle and clear the system cache, then download the game again.

Please uninstall Assassin's Creed 2. Then, clear the console cache:

- Press the Xbox button > My games and apps > See all > Manage queue > Queue > Click on cancel all > Clear the queue.

- Press the Xbox Button > Settings > System Settings > Storage. Highlight but don't select a storage device, and then press Y on your controller for Device Options. On the Device Options screen, select Clear System Cache. When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.

- Press the Xbox button on your controller. Go to Settings and select Devices and Connections. In the BLU-RAY section select Persistent Storage. Next, select Clear persistent storage three times. (If this option is not available on Xbox 360, just skip this step)

Then, Power cycle your console:

- Turn off your console and your router/modem.

- Unplug all the cables from both devices (power, HDMI, etc..) and wait 2 minutes.

- After 2 minutes, plug all the cables in again on your router/modem and wait for all the lights to show up.

- Plug all the cables on your console and turn it on.

Install the game again (in the internal storage if possible) and please let me know how it goes.

Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. You haven't done anything wrong. Personally had this happen to me also. What I do is save it often. There is an option to save yourself. This will prevent it from auto saving failing. Now if mine fails
I usually only miss a little running or start a big fight again.

Try selecting 'Load' and choose the most recent save (I've had issues with the 'Continue' option too). If that fails, then try loading the next most recent one.

yeah sounds like the dvd drive is failing or has failed you have the option to get it fixed by MS for I THINK $99 bucks but to be honest you would be better getting a newer model and transferring your save data and stuff to the newer console.
