Satya Nadella's e-mail to employees (Xbox isn't going anywhere)

I never really thought that Microsoft was going to sell off the Entertainment and Devices division that has been rumored to be in the works in the past but this recent e-mail from the CEO puts that notion to rest.

"I also want to share some additional thoughts on
Xbox and its importance to Microsoft. As a large company, I think it's critical to define the core, but it's important to make smart choices on other businesses in which we can have fundamental impact and success. The single biggest digital life category,
measured in both time and money spent, in a mobile-first world is gaming. We are fortunate to have Xbox in our family to go after this opportunity with unique and bold innovation. Microsoft will continue to vigorously innovate and delight gamers with Xbox.
Xbox is one of the most-revered consumer brands, with a growing online community and service, and a raving fan base. We also benefit from many technologies flowing from our gaming efforts into our productivity efforts – core graphics and NUI in Windows, speech
recognition in Skype, camera technology in Kinect for Windows, Azure cloud enhancements for GPU simulation and many more. Bottom line, we will continue to innovate and grow our fan base with Xbox while also creating additive business value for Microsoft."

The day they fix that up will be the day Major Nelson's annoying face stops appearing on my X1 dash in the community section.

Seriously can we just stop it already! It's like if Windows 10 desktop wallpapers started having Satya Nadella's face appearing every other day.

Not sure which forum to put this.

Anyway, my account got hacked, so I set up a temp e-mail address whilst I got a new e-mail account sorted.

I've changed the e-mail address associated with my account however, ALL Xbox Live Reward e-mails go to the temporary e-mail address, and are not going to do the new one.

I can't seem to find anywhere to change the e-mail address with the Reward scheme to match the new one.

The temp one was a work one, obviously I don't want it to continue, how do I get it changed?

 

It never crossed My mind that ms would sell off the Xbox brand. I think they have way to much time and money invested to even consider it...... Plus, they just don't need the money.

If ms was buried in debt....... Maybe.

 

That's why people like him run MS - rather than those short-sighted "investors" that just want to make a quick buck.

 

Agreed. I love that Microsoft owns Xbox, and will continue to for the foreseeable future.

That matters little. The issue would be the forward look prospects. If it looks like a money loser then they would have to start considering options. But why sell it? What a lot of these people seem to forget (the ones that constantly say they will sell
off or some other thing) is that the xbox brand does not have to actually make much money and can actually lose some. Why? The fact it gets MS into the living room. Gets their interface in there. Promotes their products and brand. And they can leverage
that. Integrate this with Windows, Surface, etc. Eventually becoming a complete ecosystem.

One thing that the One can do that some of these people seem to forget is use the Cloud. OK, I understand them questioning that. But I could see MS adding keyboard support (could be there I just never looked or tried). Then allowing for their online Office
program to work with it. You could do documents and print right from the machine. Could be a good thing for many and I am sure some parents would love that feature for their kids since it eliminates some of the need for sharing the PC.

Maybe an app for drawing. Used in conjunction with surface you could make some really nice pieces. Then you have casual apps that do small things.

Yeah, it would almost be like a PC. But, we would not see the full treatment. Just handy things that bridge to PC. This could help entice the general population to move to new windows systems.

Way to many ideas that could be possible here. No way they would let this go. Have to spend money to make money. And the xbox brand has brought them in some fans. They need to leverage that. Keep it going. Note: I am not asking for these things. I
have a great PC and no desire. Just pointing out a few things that MS could do. There are a ton more so I see no way they would sell or spin-off, etc.

 

I wouldn't think that xbox would go anywhere. Xbox has a pretty large fan base, and with the right decisions being made, xbox can get even better.

 

I just think it's great that he sees it as an asset that can improve their core business as I've never really thought about it like that.

One thing Ill say though, I dont think MS selling the Xbox brand was ever an option. What I do think is an option is spinning it off into its own company where MS still retains a majority stake.

 

Having read the email all I can say is that it is token lip service, as soon as the Xbox brand stops yielding the desired profit it will be dropped, business is business...

 

of course you would say that ... which is something that can be said about every business on the planet. if any business tanks and doesn't produce profit they cease to exist. that's not saying anything really.

 

I kept my post relatively neutral to avoid conflict...

 

It was only certain people who would actually take the idea that Xbox was done & run with it. I never thought Nintendo would stop after the Gamecube or Sony would stop after certain PS3 failures.

Just more kids spreading FUD because they have nothing better to do with their time.
