Samsung T7 cannot be formatted in Series X

I have a brand new Samsung T7 that cannot be formatted in my Series X.

It registers as a capture location for movies, pictures etc but I have no option available to format the drive for game storage. I have done some searching online but nothing has worked so far.

I have tried cleaning the disk in diskpart and formatting in disk manager, no luck.

I have done a 'hard' power cycle on the XBox and full reset through the "system" option to clear the cache, no luck.

I have also done the more obvious, used a known working cable, tried in other devices etc - I get the same issue with my XBox One X too - I also disabled password protection on the SSD through Samsung Magician all with the same result so far. I have raised a tcicket with Samsung too but hoped that someone here may be able to help.

    Thanks in advance...

    :)

I'm glad that at least you are going to be able to use your new hard drive.

    Happy gaming bud!

Samsung T7 cannot be formatted in Series X

My mistake, the cable that I have working is USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 Gen 1 or 3.2 Gen 1x1 - they are all the same performance (I have just spent about 30 mins wrestling the interweb about USB standards :)

It appears the Series X has USB 3.0 also known as USB 3.1 Gen 1 or 3.2 Gen 1x1 ports. It is made more complicated the USB protocols seem to change their names.

As you say this seems to explain the issue...

In any case the newest generation USB 3.2 Gen 2x1 (USB 3.1 Gen 2) isn't supported on Series X and that appears to be the issue with the T7 drive cable. This still means that the XBox Series X ports can handle transfer speeds of 5Gbps and with the Samsung T7 running 1Gbps there is no limitation using older generation USB.

    Thanks for your responses :)

    Thanks for this feedback mate.

I know that Xbox Series X is compatible with USB 3.0, the thing that came to my mind is maybe as you're using a 3.2 USB can cause this incompatibility.

You can try when you can use a USB 3.0 type A cable (without adapters and see how it goes)

Thanks for the response, the issue doesn't appear to he a lack of current.

As Josef suggested and my earlier posts mention the issue is related to compatibility between the Series X USB ports and the newest generation USB protocols, specifically the 3.2 Gen 2 cable that the SSD came with...

It's solved now. SSD is formated and installing games using a 3.0 cable.

    Thanks guys.

Have you tried using a powered hub? That might solve your problem
