So I recently got a 27" Samsung CHG70 gaming monitor to use, in part, with my Xbox One X. One of the main reasons was the X's capability to utilize 1440p @ 120hz (I know, I know - basically all xbox games are capped at 60fps or less), but sadly I am now
realizing it is common for this particular model of monitor to experience issues with actually letting the Xbox know it can handle 1440p @ 120.

It appears that with a recent update to the Xbox dashboard (based on comments by others and tutorials for fixes that no longer work, I'd guess sometime in 1Q 2019), something in guts of the OS changed and now this particular monitor causes the Xbox to state
that, when trying to select 1440p resolution and 120hz refresh rate in the Settings of the Xbox, that "This refresh rate isn't supported by your current resolution" so it downgrades to 1080p to make use of 120hz.

The frustrating thing is that when I first hooked the X up to the monitor and started it up, I was able to get the Xbox to accept 1440p @120hz. Played several games of COD:MW (and it looked amazing and felt incredibly responsive/smooth). The next time
I turned the Xbox back on (I use the low power, always-on mode) it started up with a message along the lines of "We detected that your monitor has some advanced display features, click OK to explore" (or something along those lines). I didn't think much of
it (I had already tooled around in the advanced display settings when first hooking it up and trying it out) and clicked OK, and low and behold when it took me to display options, it said I was at 1440p, but only 60hz. That was it - haven't gotten the Xbox
to let me select 1440p @120hz since.

Has anyone discovered a workaround for this in the last few months? Everything I can find on the web is from either late 2018 or early 2019, before the most recent dashboard update, based on the screenshots I have seen of the display options menu.

    :)

    Samsung CHG70 120hz Issues

    Hi Brad,

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot the issue. So it seems that you had the Xbox set up to 1440p and 120 Hz but now it is not giving you that option after turning off your Xbox which is in energy-saving mode. In order
to figure out what may be causing this issue, please try the following steps. While the Xbox is on, go ahead and do a hard
    restart and power cycle
to the console. Hold down the power button on the console for about 10 seconds or until it shuts down and then remove the power cable from the Xbox and the power outlet for about 5 minutes. Then re-connect and wait 60 seconds
before turning on the Xbox. Holding down the power button on the console to force a shutdown is an important step.

If that doesn't help then you will need to try out a soft factory reset.

    1. Press the Xbox button on the controller to open the guide.
    2. Scroll to the right and select System > Settings > System > Console info.
    3. Select Reset console.
Make sure to select "Keep my games & apps" and have the correct account login information plus your Wi-Fi password ready if you connect wireless because you will need to re-add the accounts that were on the Xbox and re-connect to your network during the
    reset.

Let us know if this helps!

Will Xbox series x/s have more monitors that run 1440p @ 120hz than current gen consoles?

I have a Samsung CHG70, it supports 1440P 120hz. If you want HDR you have to set it for freesync on the monitor and turn VRR on the xbox. Im hoping the series x supports 1440P 120hz with HDR on and not having to turn freesync on at all because its only
    limited to 80fps i believe.
