Saints Row: The Third - Unplayable, Freezes at "Saving" warning.

The Games with Gold download of Saints Row: The Third is completely unplayable. It won't even load. It freezes after the THQ Volition credits intro at the "when the following appears do not turn off your console..." Saving screen. It locks the console which
then requires a hard reset.

I've tried clearing system cache, starting without the update, starting WITH the update, deleting and re-installing, removing/re-installing the HDD, and multiple variations of each... it still crashes in exactly the same spot.

How do I not see posts about this all over the place? Am I the only one experiencing this?

I am also experiencing problems. Game starts then freezes or half the graphics disappear. Only way out is to exit to xbox menu. Tried to download again same problem.

 

I too have this problem, I have tried to delete the game / download it again, clear the cache, and nothing works.

The game just freezes up when you try to start a new game.

 

Any idea why? I got it with free for gold. It loads perfectly but freezes right after the start new game screen... What do?

 

Hell, I can't even get to the new game screen.

I'm sure the idea behind free Games with gold is to renew interest with DLC on older games, AND to promote sequels to games. That being said, I would be FURIOUS if I'd bought DLC for this "free" only to find out that NONE of it works. And how can you possibly
expect me to want anything to do with SR IV when THQ offers ZERO support for the previous incarnations. When I solicited them for a solution, they referred me to a useless third party support shell.

THQ you had a better reputation in my book BEFORE xBox live gave me your non-functioning "free" game.

 

I had this exact same problem with the freezing. My game would freeze up primarily when driving. My car would hit an "invisible wall", the sound would cut out, my car would disappear and the game would freeze up. I also hit a part in the story missions
at the end of Act 1 where I could not advance because the game would freeze every time during the transition from one of the cut scenes to the action. I was about to abandon the game because I could not advance.

I was able to fix the problem by running the entire game from a USB stick (16 GB) rather than the hard drive. I'm not exactly sure why this makes such a difference, but the Games with Gold version doesn't seem to like running off the HDD for some reason.
I moved the entire game (6.9 GB) and my save games to the stick and I haven't had it freeze since. If you have having this problem, I suggest giving this a shot if you have a USB stick that you can use. It cleared the problem right up for me.
