Said goodbye to Xbox today.

@OP - I'm wondering whether you can ring support and ask them to treat your repair as a Advanced Exchange. (In theory if they already have your X1 then they shouldn't even need the $400 deposit).

It's worth a try.

They only put a hold on the card for a certain amount to ensure that the funds are there. They don't actually take the money unless you don't return the console within a set time period, or you return the wrong console.

 

Last Christmas (when I got my Xbox one) I had the defective Blu-ray drive, I was able to bring mine to a Microsoft store and did the exchange right then and there. So if this happens to anybody else check to see if you have a Microsoft store fairly close
to you. (I also purchased the extended warranty that covers the Kinect and my controllers for 3 years) Sorry TSGLASS what a bummer and super bad timing.

I dont know maaan.... what do you do with your xbox that you have to send it for repairs 5 times?

When I read something like that I cant help to remember that Watchdog program in UK where some people complained about their PS4 controller that keeps breaking and then shows pictures that peope have sent in.

All scratched, dirty, covered in grease, ketchup stains and bits of meat stuck on it....

Then pictures of gaming consoles on ebay for sale....positioned right next to huuuge radiators.

 

I decided to hedge my bets and picked up a PS4 last week. Assuming they won't ever both go down at the same time, Next-Gen will always be at my fingertips.
