Safe to rest a external hardrive on top of the Xbox One?

Is there any negatives with doing this?

what i did to fix it was got an external hardrive put all of my staff on my xbox harddrive and put it on the external

and i formatted the xbox hardrive

then i run the update and it worked

Hi im thinking off getting a external hardrive for my xbox one my question is will i be able to load my games from disc onto the external hardrive or is it for downloads only

 

Overheating would be a concern. Well, for me anyway.

I have had mine resting on the xbox since getting it over a year ago now with no issues. i have a usb powered 2tb samsung hard drive

 

Can you use any external hard drive? I only ask because I got a 500gb hard drive with a Zgemma box which is unused and an extra 500gb of space wouldn't go amiss.

 

^^ It needs to be a usb 3.0 hard drive
