  1. Sad Day in Gaming ...

A shocker announced this morning - the
    closing of Irrational Games?!

A Message From Ken Levine When Jon Chey, Rob Fermier and I founded Irrational Games seventeen years ago, our mission was to make visually unique worlds and populate them with singular characters.
We built Rapture and Columbia, the Von Braun and The Rickenbacker, the Freedom Fortress and some of the nastiest basements a SWAT team ever set foot into. We created Booker and Elizabeth, the Big Daddy and the Little Sister, MidWives and ManBot. In that
time, Irrational has grown larger and more successful than we could have conceived when we began our three-person studio in a living room in Cambridge, MA. It’s been the defining project of my professional life.

Now Irrational Games is about to roll out the last DLC for BioShock Infinite and people are understandably asking: What’s next?

Seventeen years is a long time to do any job, even the best one. And working with the incredible team at Irrational Games is indeed the best job I’ve ever had. While I’m deeply proud of what we’ve accomplished together, my passion has turned to making a
different kind of game than we’ve done before. To meet the challenge ahead, I need to refocus my energy on a smaller team with a flatter structure and a more direct relationship with gamers. In many ways, it will be a return to how we started: a small team
making games for the core gaming audience.

I am winding down Irrational Games as you know it. I’ll be starting a smaller, more entrepreneurial endeavor at Take-Two. That is going to mean parting ways with all but about fifteen members of the Irrational team. There’s no great way to lay people
off, and our first concern is to make sure that the people who are leaving have as much support as we can give them during this transition.

Besides financial support, the staff will have access to the studio for a period of time to say their goodbyes and put together their portfolios. Other Take-Two studios will be on hand to discuss opportunities within the company, and we’ll be hosting a recruiting
day where we’ll be giving 3rd party studios and publishers a chance to hold interviews with departing Irrational staff.*

    What’s next?

In time we will announce a new endeavor with a new goal: To make narrative-driven games for the core gamer that are highly replayable. To foster the most direct relationship with our fans possible, we will focus exclusively on content delivered digitally.

When I first contemplated what I wanted to do, it became very clear to me that we were going to need a long period of design. Initially, I thought the only way to build this venture was with a classical startup model, a risk I was prepared to take. But when
I talked to Take-Two about the idea, they convinced me that there was no better place to pursue this new chapter than within their walls. After all, they’re the ones who believed in and supported
    BioShock in the first place.

Thanks to Irrational and 2K’s passion in developing the games, and the fans who believe in it,
BioShock has generated retail revenues of over a half billion dollars and secured an iconic place in gaming. I’m handing the reins of our creation, the
BioShock universe, to 2K so our new venture can focus entirely on replayable narrative. If we’re lucky, we’ll build something half as memorable as
    BioShock.

We will do our best to update an FAQ in this space as questions come in.

It would be a sad day indeed when another generic "Doing it for uncle Sam" FPS game is the saviour of the gaming world

    Sad Day For Me

I did read that, now Im tired and must sleep, LOL. Anywho, migrations and connections in general (not cheating, lag switching, etc) can cause dramatic and extreme effects within the game. I mean totally from one extreme to the other. I do think that when
the host leaves in any way the game ends. If theres a migration, I believe the game finds the next "best" host and the team or party does NOT matter. Maybe one day a dev will come in here and explain, LOL.

More times than not, if you check the scoreboard after a migration there will be one less player than before.

I've backed out of matches and have had the host migration, and I've been in matches where the host has said he was leaving and got a maigration.

I'm sure there are plenty of times where the game just decides it needs to pick another host, But as long as you are connected, the stats are there to transfer to next host. Dashing cuts your connection abruptly, so if you are host the data cant transfer
    and the match ends.

Just going on what I've read on these forums from other people doing it, most people just back out if frustrated, or have something they have to do. Dashing is usually done as you say, trying to preserves stats or just out of spite.

This, I'm all quite sure of ............ my only doubts are just how the party setupp works, mainly if the host stays with the team, or if its totally based on the next best connection. If it stays with the team, there are plenty of ways some dbs can
manipulate the game..... and I've wondered many times if thre isnt something going on simply because of the timing, and what happens during the timing.

    Sad Day For Me

I was editing and was afraid of running out of time, so ..... new post. Try to follow this step by step, because its the entire processs that makes me suspicious of some underhandedness going on.

tl/dr? eh, what else do you have to do at this time of night/morning?

Anyhow ..... I had been noticing that during a migration, odd things would happen. But something pretty simple is that the timers on bombs, and scoring in dom/harpoint/headquarters keep ticking while a migration is in progress.

I've also noticed on many occasions that during migrations, frequently a bomb mysteriously gets planted, or a flag will get capped, leading me to wonder if a migration works the same for everyone in the match.

At the beginning of the match players connect one at a time, sometimes some take longer to connect than others. But although there is a countdown timer, I know for a fact that some players actually are able to start playing. I've wathched teammates, and
enemies in ffa start moving while my timer was still counting down.

Now ..... taking all that into consideration, i had somethig strange happen the other day, and when I wathed theater of it , it pretty much confirmed my beliefs.... follow close, because its the details that count.

I was in a chaos lobby and we were about to start a tdm match on hijacked. It split us into 2 teams of 4. I'm always curious when the lobby is that small if it will fill up, so I check the scoreboard frequently.

The match started, scoreboard still said 4 vs 4. I ran straight for the far end of the ship. I ran through through the building ( or wwhatever you call it on a ship), upstairs and out onto the balcony. At this point it dawned on me, I had heard no
gunshots yet. I looked at the minimap, and there were no green arrows .... I dont think there was even a yellow one. But I pulled up the scoreboard again, and it was still 4 vs 4.

I ran back down, and up the side to the little room on the edge where I saw some teammates.. At this point i got a message on screen saying enemy team would forfeit in "x" seconds, I ran into the next buuilding and got shot.

Wondering wtf happened, I deided to watch theater of it afterwards. I pulled up the scoreboard and left it while i ff'd through the match., There were only 2 of us on it, myself, and one enemy. It stayed like that until after I left the balcony and headed
back the other way, at which point the single enemy started red barring, then no bars at all ..... I assume this is when I got the forfeiting message. About the same time is when i ran into my teammates who were definitely not in the spawn area , they were
headed back that way also. AFTER I saw them, my 3 teammates appeared on the scoreboard. As I ran into the next building, the single enemy popped back up to 3 bars and his 3 teammates joined. They werenty in their spawn, but I suppose were close enough that
lag could have attributed to them being inside the building already.

Confusing, long story, I know, but it just makes me believe even more, that during a migration, not everyone is looking at a migration screen, some of them are back in the game, running around, doing stuff, capping flags etc.

I just notice all this stuff out of curiosity. But I imagine that those who like to cheat have been able to figure out exactly how all that works. i've checked out a couple sites briefly when people claim hacks or mods or whatever to see if this stuff
really goes on. ..... I havent found any proof of hacks or mods, but what I have seen is a bunch of people sharing information on ways to cheat the system as far as ways to lag switch ( with or without an actual sitch) and how to pull host so it will work.
If there is a way to cheat, a cheater will find it. Its just how they are.
