I absolutely agree vDeacon. As I said on Page 2 of this thread. The story was tremendous. From the "Ryse" of Marius, and the roll of the gods in the war. The graphics (which won the SIGGRAPH best graphics award of 2014) were amazing. The combat was
fun(reminiscent of Batman: Arkham), and the executions were awesome.

@NxtDoc I find it funny that you say the combat is like the Arkham series, which it is, but people love those games. I haven't heard a complaint of repetitive about any one of those either. Then again I don't like those games so I tend to ignore stuff about
    it.

    Ryse: Son of Rome

Hey Burst Axe, thanks for echoing my comment. I tell people that all the time. Yet somehow (as you said) people do not find the combat repetitive in the Batman: Arkham series. Perhaps it is because in Batman; you are Batman, and are flipping around and
doing acrobatic martial arts. And in Ryse: Son of Rome, you are fighting sword and shield "Troy" and "Gladiator" style fighting.

It is flat out silly. Ryse: Son of Rome's combat is awesome. So are the executions.

  5. The gameplay IS like the Arkham series and it is NOT like the Arkham series. The combat mechanics are similar, but in Ryse, they are much, much more simpler. As a result, it feels like there's less that you can do and so it grows incredibly repetitive much
    more quickly.

In Ryse, you can slash your opponents, bash them, spear them, block them, and execute them - that's about it. In the Arkham series of games, you can punch them, kick them, throw them, leap over them, stun them, counter them, throw batarangs at them, shoot
your grappling gun at them, throw down a smoke bomb, blow them up, disarm or use their weapons against them, lure them into a trap, hang them, freeze them, dive on them from above, throw them off of a ledge, and so on...

In all the games that use mechanics similar to the Arkham series I have yet to see any of them that are as complex and as awesome as the ones that allow you to be the Batman...

Regardless GG, the moment I played it... I said "Hey, this feels like Batman: Arkham". Regardless of how more dynamic Batman: Arkham is. It is as I said. Ryse: Son of Rome is "Reminiscent of Batman: Arkham".
And " Perhaps it is because in Batman; you are Batman, and are flipping around and doing acrobatic martial arts. And in Ryse: Son of Rome, you are fighting sword and shield "Troy" and "Gladiator" style fighting".

Everyone has their own tastes, and perhaps a more realistic sword and shield style combat does not appeal to everyone. And that is exactly why I loved Ryse: Son of Rome. For the 2 movies I noted above.

I wouldn't be surprised if reviewers were paid money to bash this game.

    It's amazing.

    If you didn't like it...

    There's something wrong with you!

Ok... if you didn't like it... you didn't like it. Fair enough.

If somebody rushed through the game on Recruit and never bothered to up the difficulty and dropped it for being a cake walk after a single playthrough then too bad for them.

The prompts you get are for an ever expanding move set that is incomplete after a single play through.

After I finished the game I went right back to it. Instead of getting to grips with the game basics I started the game like a veteran Centurion using moves I had no access to the first time around making for a different and satisfying experience.

The combat in Batman is beautifully simple. That's why it works so well. When you do it right it's amazing.

The combat in Ryse is the same and that's why it works so well also. The number of people (though to be fair, most were just copying something they read on the internet) who say "Fighting in Ryse is like dialing a phone number" shows that it's not that
easy to master but when you do, and you don't need to wait for the prompts to tell you what action comes next, that's when the game's combo is at it's most rewarding.

Brilliant game that will always be in my collection and always see regular play whether it's revisiting the story or campaigning in the arena.

Also a lot of games could learn from this game and it's very reasonable Season Pass that didn't require you to buy the game a 2nd time while still delivering some great new levels.

Well said Azrael. I agree with you completely. It will be hard to debate what you said, because what you said is true.

Don't get me wrong, fellas - I liked Ryse; I just don't have the heart to ever play it again. In fact, I could say the same for the Arkham series - once I beat it, there's little incentive for me to go back, since I play those games for the stories.

Hey LostKauz, perhaps I could have been a little more clear in my post responding Azrael's post. I was talking about the combat system. And how it evolves and becomes more brutal, and exciting.

Anyone that says the combat system is like "dialing a phone" is flat out wrong. Because no one is swinging at you when you are dialing a phone. Unless you are being assaulted while dialing the police.

Ah I see but to be honest my phone won't dial a number by itself, I at least need to do something. Ryse on the other hand, you could literally not do anything. Watching the same arm chop, neck stab also got real old in about an
    hour of "not-play".
