Rumor: Smaller Xbox One incoming

According to IGN, anyways. I don't normally like smaller consoles due to potential things like heating issues or fewer ports, but according to
the article, the smaller console may actually operate even better since it will (obviously) be incorporating newer and better technology, which I guess is how these things usually go.

So if we want the best performance and largest storage capacity we'll be buying a new console every year or two......welcome to PC gaming.

I think the biggest upside to a new console design is that they will probably allow user upgradable internal storage. They haven't gone proprietary HD's like last gen so there really isn't a reason to not do it.

I don't think a smaller footprint alone would justify people replacing there launch consoles so they'll need to give us other reasons.

 

What ???? Microsoft is working on a Xbox one "slim".....

First time it ever happens,only one model of each console was made previous generations.....

By the way,Microsoft is already working on a next gen console,too.

That was expected,now we can wait for announcements.....I think it was 3 years after launch,Microsoft released Xbox 360 Elite.

 

The console industry is a business, consoles borrow a lot from the PC. But it's also a race between two companies as rumors are that Sony also are working on a slim PS4. Either you jump straight away or you wait and watch as things unfold.

You can predict to a certain point what's going to happen, this gen really is no different to last gen. It's all the same always is. They tell you this tell you that only to do a complete u turn and leave the customer feeling betrayed. Sony and MS are
no different to double glazing salesmen.

If people were not desperate to get their hands on the latest kit in tech, things would be different.

It is all about smaller, cooler running chips....IMO this is no surprise or big news. What would be surprising is MS not doing this.

 

Good morning G. When I joined Xbox late 2010 I got the Xbox 360 Slim 250gb console. The Slim SKU came out 2010 in Australia and NZ, and I've had no problems with my 360 console. It doesn't get the RROD because of the improved design large vent spaces on
top and 1 big fan compared to earlier models.

Not everyone likes to have a behemoth box especially in small houses take a look at the size of houses in the UK. My bedroom could be the size of their lounge that's how small some houses are especially in some city CBD apartments even in Auckland NZ. It
could be an age thing too slim may appeal because it won't weigh us down. I'm not saying the Xbox is a behemoth I've accepted the size but if you asked me when they first announced the name of the next gen Xbox - Xbox 1, around mid last year, and what it looked
like, I would have called it a behemoth.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made a slim SKU. They already made a Kinect-less SKU. Just look at how long the Slim SKU for 360 took to come out for 360 (about 5 years after 360 first launched). Then again IGN isn't Microsoft and knowing media, they aren't
always a reliable source.

If M were to release a smaller/slimmer SKU for Xbox 1, I'm sure it shouldn't be a serious issue in terms of heating and ventilation. Take a look at the very first 360 SKY models compared to the Slim and E 360 models. They probably function better because
M paid attention to a better design which also took into consideration ventilation. My Slim 360 console is "smaller" than the arcade SKU and first SKU's of 360 but it doesn't get the RROD because M sat down and did some studying. Even the Xbox 1 copied in
at least some ways the design of the 360 slim.

Certain people may not like bulky devices for cosmetic purposes or because of the space available in their house. I've become to accept the Xbox 1's current size but had you asked me last year I would have called it big. Maybe if they came out with a slim
SKU for Xbox 1 next year or the following years, it may appeal more to more younger people. A reason why the iphone is kind of successful is, because of it's slim design.

The RROD problem was with the chips and power supply not actually the case. The Xenon chip and the big PSU had the huge failure rate. Once they moved to the Falcon and Jasper ( couple other chips in limited production were also released) and smaller PSU's
the problem ended.

I think the new slim case will be more of a cosmetic upgrade rather than a performance upgrade, that's why if they expect us to buy a new console every two years they'll need to justify it with performance increases.

 

A smaller box also = cost savings all the way down the line (production, packaging, shipping, storage)...hence the reason why MS will invest time and energy to make it happen. I just don't see it happening for a while (IMO) maybe 2 years?

I heard M is going to make a standalone Kinect for US$150, when peps were complaining about paying $100 extra for a console with Kinect. I even commented 'so it costs US$50 for a bit of cardboard fancy packaging and delivery to XBL available countries and
authorized retailers.

Mainly cosmetic, and what Burnin was going on about.
