Rumor new xbox 1 in 2017 called scorpio

*Cheesy, MS have been planning this progression for a while now in regards to games working on all platforms. Unlike PS there is no such thing a Similar "Neo Mode" to be made. MS has Dx12/win10/UWP. All games dev for Windows 10 can run on all win 10 devices.
All scalable with little work on behalf of the devs.*

Haven't they already scrapped their phone division and I can't see Windows being any more popular on third party cell phones than they were before. So could we call UWP on phones dead?

Tablets have a good chance if Microsoft can keep up their push of the Surface Tablet brand. Hard going against the Apple stuff and the multiple Android brands but I hear nothing but good things from Surface users. Are people going to be willing to push through
the Windows 8 interface people hate though? I think UWP has a good chance on tablets if they can convince people they are more than low powered laptops.

So we go to the big two. PC and Xbox One. Where to be honest I see no chance at all for UWP to take a market share. Microsoft are going to need to pull out the big gun exclusive of HALO and not just Forge mode they plan to release at the moment, for PC gamers
to sit up and give it even a little consideration.

Both Rise of the Tomb Raider (under UWP) and Quantum Break have been mediocre releases at best on the PC and Microsoft still has the stinking shadow of Games for Windows Live hovering over them.

As crass as it may seem, they have no time to convince PC gamers of what UWP offers. They need to show it NOW and not when it is too late, or we will be seeing GFWL all over again.

DirectX12 isn't the miracle that some people have convinced themselves it is. Look at the promises made with DX11 (or even 10 for godsake) and to how long developers were sticking to DX9c. You'll need to see support for Windows 7 and 8 practically end before
we stop seeing DirectX12 as a mode.

Really the only way I can see Microsoft making UWP a success is by making DX12 exclusive to it. and if did they they'd just kill Windows as the PC gaming platform of choice.

Hopefully I am completely wrong but I do not think Microsoft have chosen wisely.

 

I meant support for 7 and 8 by gamers end before we stop seeing DX12 as a mode.

Going by the 10 or so posters who still hang around these forums, I'm thinking they should name it the Xbox Kancer. (with a k) lol

 

Rumor has it, it may be called Xbox Infinity, cuz... it's sounds way better than "scorpio"...

 

Apparently the upgraded PS4 will be pretty much just for VR. Sony has some strict rules for developers so that the people with the older model won't be at a real disadvantage. I can only assume Microsoft will be doing something similar. They do need better
specs to handle VR but abandoning the basic model now would just further hurt them. I mean, let's be honest here, if we'd have to keep getting a new console even as often as 3-4 years, many of us would switch to PC instead. Less upgrading needed and the upgrades
you do need will be a lot cheaper

 

There was someone on YouTube who said that they could go like phone contracts, where you pay a subscription each month. So each 12 or 18 months they send you the new version of the console.

 

That youtuber must be crazy then, because I for sure wouldn't want consoles to be like phones. To think that these new rumored consoles could all be a response to Nintendo for releasing there next gen console next year.

 

@sipuli this isn't abandoning the current model in any way. All the new games will work just like they do now on the current X1. The Scorpio may have some better Rez or textures/framerates for some titles. Most likely the single player portions with MP being
mostly the same.

 

@Rippen, I never said they are abandoning the old systems, just that if theyd did, it would hurt them. Like I said, these upgrades are (most likely) ment for VR. The internet is going crazy about these upgrades, people worrying that they just wasted money
getting a console a month ago if they now have to get a new one to keep up with the games. That's why it's a great thing Sony has their rules (and I'm fairly certain MS will do the same). It'll reassure customers that they aren't going to be forgotten about
and it forces developers to still keep working on games that run on the older models and have the same features.

 

I suspect those who have the upgraded Xbox will get some sliders in game to tinker with.

 

Bring it on. I have two perfectly good but soon to be outdated consoles ready to make room for a new Xbox.

 

If it is true, I'd end up getting the new console just for the hell of it. I still have the day one console and it's had a good run. So if the price is right I'd upgrade the console every 3-4 years.... If that's the plan from now on.
