    Rules Question - Communications

Hi, I just wanted to make sure because I do not think the Code of Conduct is clear enough about some things, and is specifically ambiguous about what "harassment" entails.

Harassment is defined on Microsoft’s Code of Conduct Explained for Xbox Live Customers as:

Don’t harm or harass. For example, don't:

    • Engage in self-harm
    • Encourage violence against people or animals
    • Scream at, intimidate, or bully others
    • Violate another person's privacy (e.g., share someone’s personal information like home address)
    • Fail to protect your account, devices, and personal information (e.g., lend your credentials, post your private information publicly, fail to supervise your devices)
Note that spam/continuously messaging or inviting someone is not listed as harassment here. The code of conduct does say that just because something is not on this list, it does not make it okay, but that leaves such a wide margin for what is and is not
    harsssment.

For example, someone could be talking to you normally and having a back and forth conversation, then suddenly turn and say "You have been bothering me" or "you're creeping me out and I'm reporting you." Is this harassment? Who is deciding if it is or not
    - because the rules do not differentiate if harassment is based off the person reporting's feelings or based off the rules.

If you say it is based upon the player reporting it, then why should harassment bans exist at all? Shouldn't they be handled account by account, through the "avoid a player" feature?

If you say it is based upon Xbox' Code of Conduct then where do they draw the line on what is and is not harassment?

This is a huge problem that has caused a number of my friends and players that I've encountered (that are probably on this forum too) to be banned or chat restricted. It is also a trick that toxic players have been using on Xbox Live recently to bait people
(either in game or in a party) into sending many messages through text in a conversation, then deeming it harassment later on.

Purposely having loosely defined rules is asking for trouble and is a way to always hold the player guilty until proven innocent.

Is there any possible way to clarify what is and is not harassment?

    :)

any unwanted messaging is harassment common man its not rocket science

It doesn't matter who starts the fight it's your actions that affects your suspensjon

    Noone else

If someone tells you to stop or you keep cursing or telling them off you need a lesson in curteousy

Common man 99.9% of on line players can figure it out why cant you?

You should treat your fellow players how you want to be treated

But I never (not once) mentioned a fight happening at all. My point was about how harassment is defined - I have seen people talk completely normally in conversation about a game or other topic, then suddenly the person end the conversation by saying they
    are being harassed.

Does that entire conversation suddenly become harassment?

And let's say for your case too, even where you stop messaging them after they say that.

Pvp player rules. ( in game community rules )

Well, as entertaining as this little exchange has been, I'm afraid it's not very productive any more. As with most internet arguments, nobody ever really wins. Most of it comes down to debating which color is better, red or blue.

Before I go, I'd just like to say that I understand your frustration, Redpoint...nobody likes what these tools do. But honestly, if you visit the popular wiki forums, you'll see that most people are beyond caring anymore. Some of the more seasoned players
actually enjoy the griefer invasions, since it gives them a chance to teach these wankers a lesson with some base gear, and win on skill alone (I have a number of veteran friends, and I've seen them do it...thing of beauty).

Anyway, like I said it's been....interesting. But I don't think this thread even serves a purpose anymore, considering how it's devolved. Cheers, guys...try to enjoy the game!
