RPG for beginners.

I own Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3 and just picked it on Steam a couple weeks back to play the included DLC I didn't around to on the PS3. Excellent game.

Currently working my way through Akiba's Trip which is a very weird game even in the world of JRPG's. Controls are a little wonky but playing a game where one of your primary goals is to take someone's underwear is disturbingly addicting.

Lighten up girls...if an RPG is easy or not for you doesn't matter if it's a beginning RPG. U had probs, then u think it's a upper tier game. You own then u think it's a lower tier game. DAI is a lower tier game for beginners cus of many of the points that
Randver points out, but more so cuz it's easy. There is no need for schematics as u can find more powerful weapons. The only need for crafting is to upgrade armor or weapons with runes. More funny is as long as u get 2 mages to the 2nd tier and have the Iron
Bull you become way OP...IMO...Crafting is a joke here...

Bstn617 hit on my biggest complaint in his last post. He said it has a tactical view but it's not a tactical rpg and I agree with that which is my biggest issue with the game.

DA is a party based rpg with AI scripts which is what a tactical rpg is yet all the other features and depth you expect from a tactical rpg isn't there. The game plays more like an action rpg yet leaves in the micromanaging of a tactical rpg without the
benefits.

To put this thread back on topic.....I think Diablo 3 would be an excellent rpg for a beginner. The easier difficulties are forgiving enough that you can ignore many of the more advanced features (crafting, enchanting, gems, builds) and enjoy the story yet
still have enough difficulty options to offer a challenge as you feel more comfortable with the other features. Excellent game with lots of content, co-op, replay ability, not buggy or glitch.....I don't see a downside to it.

I ended up getting Child of Light, Costume Quest 2, Diablo III, and Dragon Age: Inguisition, I should be pretty set. Thanks for all of your help and sorry for starting an argument.

Dark Souls and then Demon Souls are the 2 RPG's you probably shouldn't play ever Anyway OP, congrats on your purchases, Maybe consider DR3? This game has plenty of RPG elements.

Here is why I make the comparison.......you take someone like Sword Style who obviously enjoys DA:I. When he reads my negative post does someone like him or even you take the time to look at the games I mention, realize that they can be played on modern
systems and actually play them? If you did I'd probably get a thank you but most people simply read what I post, look at the PC reference and write it off as nonsense. That's their lose.

You just stated you like JRPG's ( another of my favorite genres). My assumption would be you've owned every PS console, maybe a PSP, Vita, DS If you don't then you've missed out. A JRPG fan that hasn't played Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Grandia and the dozens
of others has missed out. When KH3 or FF Type - 0 come to the One they may be the best JRPG's on the One but it won't make them good games if they can't hold there own against their predecessors. Why play a bad game when there is something better you haven't
played?

Platforms are irrelevant, the games and experience should always come first.

It's the best on the One but I'm hoping the Witcher is going to make it look silly story and side quest wise and most of all locations.

I've played my share of RPGs and I started DA last week. It's an amazing game but not for beginners at all. Like bstn I've found myself looking up certain things.

Shadow of Mordor is RPGish enough and it's pretty easy to follow. Great game. I highly recommend picking it up.

Dragon Age shouldn't be a game for anyone. It didn't get a warm reception review wise from gamers but was for some reason embraced by professional reviewers but that more than likely has to do with advertising revenue.

It's a horrible, depthless tactical rpg. Anyone who played any of the old school Bioware rpg's or any of the rpg's using the Infinity engine for that matter( BG, IWD, Planescape, etc) will immediately see what this game could have/should have been.

It's a horrible action rpg is you try to throw it into that genre.

It has the grindyness of a JRPG but with out the depth. I just don't get the appeal....it will be the first Bioware game I haven't finished or had any desire to finish.
