SwordStyle was 100% corect in his post Dragon Age is not an RPG for beginners. Could the OP handle it maybe but he/she asked for a RPG for beginers and to recomend Dragon Age is a sign of stupidity.

The game can be confusing I have been playing RPG's games since they were basically invented and I found my self looking to the web for help a few times.

Dragon Age shouldn't be a game for anyone. It didn't get a warm reception review wise from gamers but was for some reason embraced by professional reviewers but that more than likely has to do with advertising revenue.

It's a horrible, depthless tactical rpg. Anyone who played any of the old school Bioware rpg's or any of the rpg's using the Infinity engine for that matter( BG, IWD, Planescape, etc) will immediately see what this game could have/should have been.

It's a horrible action rpg is you try to throw it into that genre.

It has the grindyness of a JRPG but with out the depth. I just don't get the appeal....it will be the first Bioware game I haven't finished or had any desire to finish.

I've played my share of RPGs and I started DA last week. It's an amazing game but not for beginners at all. Like bstn I've found myself looking up certain things.

Shadow of Mordor is RPGish enough and it's pretty easy to follow. Great game. I highly recommend picking it up.

I'd just get Inquisition too, RPG's are my fave genre and the choice on the X1 is currently lacking. So far I do prefer the combat of Origins. I found that equally tactical but a bit more fluid in motion.

It does have a learning curve, I started on hard and found the start a suitable challenge. 20 odd hours in and I re-rolled on Nightmare to get the achievement. I actually found it a lot easier on Nightmare due to me getting to grips with it.

I also bought it on the 360 so I can play it in the man cave when I have been banished by kids/mrs from the main Plasma. Nightmare again but a different class.

I'd definitely vote for Shadow of Mordor. It's very light on the RPG mechanics, and the combat difficulty is pretty low. You have a skill tree that's pretty obvious to pick from, and you get enough points to get all abilities (where as some games will make
you pick and choose a play style and have you choose those abilities). It's not overly long, but it's not super short.

On a somewhat similar level, Sunset Overdrive carries a few RPG elements, like weapon/player modification. It's not a difficult game either, and it's a game with a very laid-back vibe and art style. You can just go around doing whatever, nothing intense.
Of course, neither is as cheap as the $7.50 investment of Child of Light, so hard to complain.

@Randver Wow that's a rough opinion on Dragon Age...It took me some time to get into it due to confusion on my part but after I did I got hooked. Im about 45 hours into it and see myself going 100hrs+ there is a lot to do and it is very deep imo.

There are some things I wish they did different of course but it's a solid game.

I will assume that based on the above statement that you're familiar with the games I rattled off in my previous post. Is my opinion really that rough if you compare it to the games that made Bioware great?

RPG's especially tactical and turned based have been and always will be my gaming genre of choice. When you've played the best of the genre and then add the Bioware name to a game you know what's possible and they failed miserably with DAI.

I kind of agree with some of that. I'm 130 hours in and most of the side quests are meaningless, dull and generally uninteresting but you keep going in the hope you may hit a nugget of a quest, Iits not really happened to me so far, lack of really interesting
dungeons as well. Outside locations are stunning though. Personally I'm not that invested in the main story either after playing to a point where a forced boss fight where if you lose the fight your forced to replay a lengthy cutscenes/dialogue choice every
time made me turn to Halo and that's not a good thing for an RPG.

@Randver we are on a console forum the games that made BioWare great are Knights of the old Republic, DA and MassEffect I have played all of those games through and Dragon Age Inquisition is just as good after you remove your nostalgia glasses.

Your welcome to your opinion obviously but when you say things like "Dragon Age shouldn't be a game for anyone" and "it's a horrible, depthless tactical rpg" and start rambling off old PC games it just sounds stupid.

I'm not sure what the platform has to do with anything or even how old the game is for that matter.

A tactical rpg is a tactical rpg, when or where you're playing it is irrelevant. Why would you exclude some of the best games in the genre simply because they couldn't be played on a console?

Fatal's comment isn't suprising to me, I'm well aware there are people here that believe that if a game wasn't on the Xbox it simply doesn't matter. There is a whole world of gaming outside the Xbox and people that choose to ignore it are doing themselves
a huge disservice even if they only intend on gaming on the Xbox.

Anyone here that enjoys DA:I and doesn't take the time to play Planescape Torment and Baldurs Gate 2 is seriously missing out, I'm apparently the only one that has. Play those games and then scoff at me for disliking DA....that would be an interesting discussion.

Im not excluding anything it's just you quoted me "I have been playing RPG's games since they were basically invented" and then went into PC games that came out in like 2000.

When I said that I was talking about playing RPG's like the original Phantasy Star on the Sega Master system and Final Fantasy on the NES back in like 87 through to present on console. I don't even know about games like Ice Wind Dale because they were PC
games and I am not a PC gamer as most others who post on a console forum probably are not so why even compare them.

It's fine if you don't like it I am not trying to change your mind but saying nobody should play it is kinda crazy as most people who have played it have nothing but good things to say about it.

Is it the best no but it's dam good. Personaly I prefer turn based JRPG's but its still a great game with a lot of value for the money.

It's the best on the One but I'm hoping the Witcher is going to make it look silly story and side quest wise and most of all locations.

    @Bstn

Here is why I make the comparison.......you take someone like Sword Style who obviously enjoys DA:I. When he reads my negative post does someone like him or even you take the time to look at the games I mention, realize that they can be played on modern
systems and actually play them? If you did I'd probably get a thank you but most people simply read what I post, look at the PC reference and write it off as nonsense. That's their lose.

You just stated you like JRPG's ( another of my favorite genres). My assumption would be you've owned every PS console, maybe a PSP, Vita, DS If you don't then you've missed out. A JRPG fan that hasn't played Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Grandia and the dozens
of others has missed out. When KH3 or FF Type - 0 come to the One they may be the best JRPG's on the One but it won't make them good games if they can't hold there own against their predecessors. Why play a bad game when there is something better you haven't
    played?

Platforms are irrelevant, the games and experience should always come first.

I looked at every game you mentioned, That's how I figured out IWD was Ice Wind Dale I had to do some google searching LOL but I did look.

I have a VERY capable PC due to my job that can play any game out I just don't like PC gaming for my own reason. I do have a Steam account with a couple of games that were all gifted to me from friends who tried to convert me but it didn't work

The only game I have enjoyed on PC was Torchlight 2 which I still play and have a ton of hours into. But even that if I could I would prefer to have on console.

I respect your opinion and usually agree with what you post but Dragon Age Inquisition is a solid game. I'm sure it's not for everyone it's not perfect but maybe you don't like it because it's not turn based and it's not a tactical. It does have the tactical
view but I don't consider it a tactical game.

If you like turn based strategy JRPG's check out Valkyria Chronicles you might like that. It's a bit old like 2007 pre trophy Playstation but they put it out on Steam last month for 20$ and it's very good.
