    Roommate hacking my xbox one!

So the other day I was in the middle of a call of duty game when my roommate had somehow wireless hacked into my xbox one and was controlling it, pulling up youtube and searching stuff, as you can imagine I was furious and I knew it was him because he had
done this once before and I had kindly asked him to stop but since he is an "ex" addict and a loser, he has nothing better to do with his time than to screw with mine. None the less, I don't feel safe turning on my xbox or even leaving my kinect plugged in
anymore as I'm paranoid he could somehow watch me while I'm in private. Anyway, I'm sort of stunned as to how this is even possible because I consider myself to be a pretty tech savvy guy and this "gentlemen" who we're dealing with here can barely hold his
own or complete structured sentences, yet I can't figure out how he's managed to hack into my xbox twice now. I figure it has something to do with some sort of setting or possibly he has managed to download smart glass on his phone and connect through it that
way but I figured I would still have to be signed in on his phone which he doesn't have the information for but I would really enjoy being able to game in peace again without having this weirdo trying to control my xbox. I know a lot of people are probably
just going to suggest I get away from such a kind of person ASAP and I've already set plans into motion in order to do so but in the meantime I would really appreciate if anyone could explain to me how exactly he is doing this and more importantly what I can
do to stop him or anybody else for that matter from ever doing this again. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

    :)

Sorry, we are unable to play this disc.

My roommate had this same problem. Just return it or send it to xbox for repair.

    Hi there,

As far as I know there are no ways to hack the console, but it can be controlled via Smartglass, controllers or remotes.

There is an option in the settings of the Xbox One console, that will require a profile to be on the console in order to connect to it via Smart glass. If the option is set that any device with smart glass is able to connect, then he doesn't need your profile
(or any profile on the console) to control the console.

See the part 'Set up SmartGlass on your Xbox One' on this link:
    support.xbox.com/.../smartglass-console-setup

    Let us know the results

So, I read the instructions and I did change the setting from any smart glass device to only from profiles signed in on this xbox but he still did it just a couple minutes ago. He said he did it by accident and immediately apologized about it but none the
less this is highly intrusive for me and makes me want to sell my xbox as it is kind of ridiculous that another person is managing to control it while I'm trying to use it whether it be an accident or not. I don't even want this guy to know that I'm online
yet he is somehow able to know when I'm playing. I did change the setting to do not allow smart glass connections but this is, well I'm at a loss for words. I shouldn't have to have done this in the first place. Why does Microsoft sell such highly expensive
products to people in factory settings that allows things like this to happen? I haven't tried it yet as I came straight back to this forum but if I want to use my smart glass on my phone now I feel as though I may not be able to do so if I have to have it
set to this setting. Anyway, if anyone has any more information as to what might be happening I would highly appreciate more help and I apologize for not thanking you in the first place WPAK as the information you gave me was extremely great and insightful.
I asked him how he is doing it and he just says "I hacked it". I have a feeling he may be doing this somehow through our internet connection but I just don't know anymore.

Sorry to hear it. However WPAK is correct that no one can hack the console.

More than likely what is happening here is that your roommate has either gone into your room when you weren't home and adjusted your settings to allow him access or has a controller that is synced up with your console that he can use from a different room
    (yes, this works).

If your roommate knows when you're online then you should change your profile to show you as offline. Another option may be to find a different roommate if he/she is being this intrusive.

Ok but I lock my door whenever I am not home and he doesn't own a xbox controller because I'm in his room all the time and I would have seen one if he did. Also if he has somehow made his way into my room while I wasn't aware of it what settings could he
have changed in order to do this? Also it isn't a matter of appearing offline because it's not like I have him as a friend on my friends list or anything he just happened to mention to me one day he knew I was home because he saw my xbox online which makes
no sense because he only owns a PS3. I have changed the settings so if he has happened to do it through smart glass then he won't be able to do it anymore but the settings were exactly where they were when I changed them in the first place so I think I would
have noticed if he was doing something. None the less this had made me become very paranoid.

Ok, he can see that you're online by heading over to xbox.com here. As for the controller, it isn't large and can easily be hidden inside a drawer.

Good to hear my advise was useful and you're welcome.

You yourself should still be able to access the console via smartglass if you set it up that only profiles that exist on the console can connect. So that should work for you.

If you feel that the default setting shouldn't allow smartglass connections then you can leave the feedback at
Xbox Ideas, powered by UserVoice be sure to search if a similar item already exists and vote for that before creating your own.

  10. Bigtizzle, from what I understand, you would need both the email and password you use normally to sign into your xbox, if your friend has either one of those, then I can suggest changing your password if you're wanting to use your smartglass app. How your
roommate got both of those is a bit, well, baffling, as Microsoft enforces you not to share those kinds of things with anyone. So if they have somehow discovered them without your knowledge, then I would also suggest keeping it elsewhere other than on a piece
of paper or on a note page on your computer.

Also, if you have a second controller anywhere in the house, I would definitely find it and unsync it from your console or just sell it. Provided they don't have an abundance of them, your problem should be fixed.

I understand your being upset with the whole situation, but to be truthful, it's not as though Microsoft is handing people tools to spy on others. The Smartglass app wasn't made for others to be able to control the experience another has on their system,
it's just a setback or flaw that your roommate has exploited shamelessly. (Also, unless your roommate has an Xbox and can make your Xbox One accept Skype calls, they can not spy on you via Kinect.)

As a final note, unless you really just don't want the Xbox One anymore, I wouldn't be so quick to sell it just because your roommate has been a low human being.
