Microsoft confirms Rise of the Tomb Raider Xbox exclusivity deal "has a duration"

Like I hinted at before it's a timed exclusive. SE complained last time that the game sold below expectations (on more than one platform) they were never going to limit the next game to the Xbone.

 

Yeah this has been confirmed as a timed exclusive, I doubt that they would cut out the majority of tomb raider fans like that.

 

I'm not too happy about this to be honest timed or not. I loved the last Tomb Raider game so was really looking forward to this.

As a multiplatform gamer you would think it wouldn't bother me as i can just get it on my xboxone, but the thing is the xboxone could not handle the tomb raider definitive edition very well with a worse frame rate and lower resolution compared to the PS4.

Now i want this game to look and play at the best it can and i know that when it is released i will have to buy and play it on my Xboxone rather then wait for the superior version! which is a bit of a shame.

i like exclusives (the ones when it'll only be out on one console or pc and not the other) but hate these timed ones, especially when it comes out on the inferior machine first...

 

Now the Xbox One have 10% GPU boost without Kinect and developers getting to grips with the hardware I fully expect this Tomb Raider game to have better resolution.

Not that it matters to me, I can't really tell a difference and also as long as the game is fun to play, that's all I care about.

 

Tomb raider on xbox one looks and plays great to me, did not leave me wanting

 

Wonder how big the MS moneyhat to Square Enix was? Must have been pretty significant.

I follow Kevin Dent and various other gaming journalists on Twitter and word is Microsoft over the next 6 months - 1 year will throw quite a bit more cash about to secure exclusives ( timed or not )

I'm still a little baffled to the overall reaction to this from some, what made me laugh the most was on IGN, a PS4 gamer posted a picture of himself trying to burn his PS4 copy of the last Tomb Raider in protest lol, seriously??

How many times in the past has Microsoft and Sony done deals ( whether money was involved or not ) to secure some sort of exclusive rights?

 

I can fully understand people being angry when MS made the original announcement.. For a TR game not to come out on a Sony machine or PC and move into the MS camp is a bit of a slap in the chops to fans, mind you, wave enough cash at any studio and their
publisher will step in and deal over their head I suppose.

Thankfully it turned out to be a big old fib from MS... or maybe not fib, but omission of details.

 

After DR3 and Ryse, i had now real worries of this being anything other than a timed exclusive.

Of course for me TR is not a system seller, only game for me that would be a system seller right now would be Crackdown 3, but that is was off in 2016.

 

If you think about it rationally, the only logical reason that the definitive edition was limited to a single platform was not because of any fibs about technical shinanegans, otherwise it would have been limited to PC.

It's pretty obvious the definitive edition was a paid for exclusive.

I was pretty taken aback by the announcement too. It's a swift kick to the face to anyone on other platforms that played the reboot because the continuity in Lara's new journey can now only be done on Xbox One for the foreseeable future (is it definitely
timed?). Which has me wondering whether the 3rd game or any thereafter that are tied to this canon will also be exclusive due to other consoles missing out on number 2?
