I got what I thought was the dlc from GameStop, told to download and activate today. Got home found out it was a gift card and now the preorder is unavailable

In order to preorder "Rise of the Iron Lord" you need to own the main game and all previous released DLC assigned to the account you want to preorder "Rise of the Iron Lord" with. If your Account is missing any of the previous DLC you cant preorder.

Please check if you have purchsed all already released DLC and you are using the account assigned to the DLC to preorder the Iron Lord addon.

Could you please attempt these steps listed here to see if you can get the content:

In order to purchase Destiny: Rise of Iron you must make sure your account which is trying to purchase Rise of Iron owns Destiny: The Taken King. That is required to be able to purchase Rise of Iron.

Now if you have finished that step then you have a few methods of which you can buy the DLC:

1. You can sign into your account via this link here:
www.microsoft.com/.../c3tbg0pc3fc9 and buy the DLC

Or

2. Launch your game and under the director select the icon for Rise of Iron and select purchase and try to purchase the DLC.

Now you also could try searing the Store on your Xbox One for "Destiny: Rise of Iron" but if you do make sure it says "Pre-Order" otherwise you will run into the issue of it stating it can only be bought in a bundle.

I have tried this numerous times and it is telling me QUERY FAILED when i click in the purchase tab

 

Alright the reason as to why you're getting that error message is cause your actual account does not legit own "Destiny: The Taken King" meaning you must be the account of whom purchased that content.

Purchase of "Destiny: The Taken King" must be made by the same account as the account that is trying to purchase the "Rise of Iron" DLC. Sharing methods are not supported for this process and will not allow users to be
able to purchase this content.

If your account does not own the above mentioned content then you will be unable to purchase "Rise of Iron"

Alright all the disc includes is Destiny. It does not contain The Taken King. The Taken king is a DLC.

 

The Taken King would have been on an insert with a 5x5 code on it to be redeemed in the store or on the website.

 

How can i transfer the license from her account to mine?

 

A license can not be transferred from account to account only to a system from a system.

In order to own the DLC or game it would have to be purchased on your account.

 

So I need to rebuy the DLC on her login, and got stuck with a 30 dollar giftcard on mine. Will I get the preorder bonus on my account or hers then? if thats the case I need to start over from scratch

 

The content will be on hers, but if her home Xbox is set to the one you play on you will be able to play any content that is under her account. So if you can only get the DLC on her account you will either have to purchase it new on yours (Destiny + The
Taken King) or purchase it on her account (leaving your account with the credit) and either have her logged in or her home Xbox set to yours. I am not sure if you can purchase the DLC on your account and still then have both your accounts set to the Home Xbox.

This is if I am understanding the situation.

Yes I redeemed the code from GameStop thinking that I bought the DLC, not knowing that when I originally installed the Taken King DLC that it was under her account. So when I went to preorder it, it wasnt allowing me because I had didnt "Own Taken King"
and wound up with a 30 dollar gift card on my account that Ill just be stuck with. I downloaded the PreOrder on her account and installed it, just hoping that I can claim the bonus on my main account. What a nightmare.
