Review Embargos

Why do games these days have embargos up almost until release eg Titanfall embargo ends 10th, one day b4 usa release not just titanfall but all games now Is it because of the hype / preorders so as not to interfere

I am looking forward to Playing Wolfenstein but can't get over the size of the day one patch, Its kinda crazy. People downloading this game are in for it hope you got a good connection.

The one for the original Xbox was awesome. I can't wait til my kids are in bed tomorrow night so I can play this.

 

Is say it has more to do with reviewers giving away plots and surprises until closer till it's release.

 

Id say it has more to do with people overreacting to scores of anything lower than a 8 being a bad game.

 

After reading most reviews on Ryse they made it sound like hot garbage, glad I bought it to find out that is actually very good and quite challenging to master.

 

I never take notice of review scores, Beowulf on 360 has a review score of 2 out of 10 but the actual game was one of the best I ever played on 360!

Always try the game yourself!

 

What i found funny about Gametrailers review of Ryse, was in the review it was put down, but when the same reviewer on the Gametrailers Xbox launch stream sat and played it with the others, suddenly the game was better

So don't rely fully on reviews. Try a demo, check out youtube or Twitch for other people playing it if you are unsure.

Best thing is to play it yourself.

 

Don't know... I'm pretty sure the same happened with Red Dead Redemption & Skyrim... Embargoes are pretty run of the mill with a lot of modern games.

It's been happening for years. This isn't new.

 

OP: Why do you care Titanfall and Xbox one is not for you....

Also the embargo thing,is an old story and use by many devs/publishers (even the ones you love).

I think the trol... erm OP, is meaning how reviews are not allowed to be published before a certain date...

The OP is notorious for his dislike of the X1... Sorry OP, but it's true.

I think he was fishing for someone to come in and say that it's because Titanfall will be garbage...

See recently games like the latest Duke Nukem and Aliens: Colonial Marines, just two examples, had embargoes (meaning no one was allowed to post reviews before it was released as if they were negative, which in those two cases would have been, it would have
affected sales).

Also if game journo's break embargoes, they won't be given future games from those publishers again. It's a sneaky practice at times...

It can be bad, like the two games I mentioned above, or good, that it can generate interest like for Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption, as per my first post.

 

The temptation to watch a review of Titanfall when America gets it will be... unbearable.

 

The Developers do not threaten the Gaming sites by saying they won't give them any games.

The Publisher threatens the Gaming site by saying they shall withdraw their advertising. This is the only way these sites make money and unfortunately some Publishers abuse this.
