Revert new gamertag system change

Hi, on the announcement day of the new gamertag system I changed my GT to Dunny from , I knew about the numbers and thought it would be small like Discord from the screenshots Microsoft showed of how a new gamertag looked on the Xbox Social
part of the Game Bar on Windows 10 so I thought it would be fine but because it was the first day of the new system and I changed it on PC I assume it bugged because it never mentioned about the Xbox 360 change so my GT on 360 was Dunny3852. I then paid for
a change to put the legacy gamertag back to but that forced me to change the new gamertag too so I chose DunnyWT but now I'm thinking why is the system like this anyways? Why can't I just revert all these changes and have my gamertag on Xbox
One, 360 and PC just be again? I know it's over 12 characters but since I already owned that GT on the old system why can't I even just pay to have that one back? If there are people on Xbox One still using a GT over 12 characters then it should
easily be possible to revert a new gamertag system name change back to the old one. Maybe I'm just stupid but it doesn't seem that far fetched to me.

Existing 13 character usernames are fine because the system doesn’t need to do anything with them. But as soon as you rename your GT, the old one is gone. Then, when you try to change back to it, you’re effectively creating a new GT, so the system checks
if its more than 12 characters, and rejects it.

It sounds like you probably already know this, but for the benefit of others I thought it was worth stating.

The only possible way around this would be to have a support staff member manually update your GT for you. I’m not sure if they have the ability or authority to do this however, but it can’t hurt to ask.

It will be small like you mention HOWEVER you had to read the fine print

NOT all game servers support the new gamertags so the hashtag isnt there on all servers nor are the unicode characters recognized yet

You have to wait till all servers recognize it

For now only the existing servers that recognise it will recognize the hashtag

Just a suggestion, to make the best of the situation, how about using DunnywasTakn? Just an idea.

they changed it so everyone could have the same gamer tag in a way with numbers at the end.. I too did what you did, changed my name and tried to change it back.. but had no fun.. The only way I could suggest if you go via the support page.. when you get
the robot assistant just type in connect me to a human and you get put in the queue to type to one..

I appreciate the suggestion but I think missing a letter out would also annoy me over time just like my current one is now. I just don't understand why I can have my legacy, old gamertag on Xbox 360 and not have it again on Xbox One / Windows 10.
