Returning Minecraft player after years-long break seems to have lost my unique username I...

Just want to update that I STILL have had no help on this issue other than a constant runaround that leads to the same useless circle over and over and over again.

Again, ANY database shows that my username is still tied to my old UUID and still has my original skin. So it seems the account is just completely locked up and both unable to be claimed by me, the owner, has not been claimed by anyone else, AND also unable to have the username of my new account changed back to the one of the original.

My best hope is waiting until my old username is released (again, as detailed by this guide, unless that's a flat out lie) which, of course, is given no concrete date or even estimation of a millennia it will happen. Maybe after the heat death of the universe, idk.

But based on the horrid customer support that hundreds like me have experienced, I'm not holding my breath. If ANYTHING changes, I will reply with an update. My hope is to help others who may be experiencing this exact problem and let people know when/if there is any solution that can be had.

Yes, in the same situation here, as expected the Microsoft Agent didn't actually read your post or bother to give a non general, or helpful reply. From what I understand you are right, our usernames and other stuff like capes are still linked to our Mojang accounts, which are deactivated and as good as gone. No one can claim our usernames in the meantime so it'll just be a waiting game until they "release" them. The system doesn't make sense at all though, why even have a timed "post migration" process, why not allow the transfer of usernames and capes if the Mojang account's never going to be able to be accessed again anyway?
I strongly believe it's some sort of punishment to set an example for people who aren't closely following every publication on minecraft.com or who didn't want their access to a game they paid for to be revoked because of something they didn't agree to when they bought it. Or maybe it's some sort of game to see how painful they can make the experience and still have people play their game,
Bottom line is we've been screwed and there's not much to do. Silver lining is that your ign is pretty unique so I don't think people will be throwing themselves at it when it does drop, and you'll probably get it back eventually.

I know for a fact no one else has claimed it.

This database shows the account tied to my username still has the exact skin I personally made for it which is housed on the computer of the user. If someone else had claimed my username, they would have the default Steve skin. Since it would be a "new" account.

Further, the article here states that skins would be lost after migration ended, indicating no one should be able to have access to it other than me...as I made it and never shared it anywhere. What would be the chances of a random person picking BOTH my username AND my skin I made and never shared? Zero, since the skin was never shared.

It is DEFINITELY sitting there, completely able to be linked to my account, but for some unknown reason, Microsoft seems to have made it impossible.

I realize that you've encountered a problem with Minecraft java edition username and I understand how you feel.



Unfortunately, you cannot change your username to one that is already in use by another player. Each player's username is unique to ensure that each player's identity is unique and secure. If you would like to change your username, you can do so on the Mojang website, but you must choose a username that is not already in use by another player.

You will need to contact Minecraft Support for help with this issue.
