Retrieve saves after Gamertag editing

Hi

After months I finally decided to edit my Gamertag (from /changegamertag page on xbox.com website since my Xbox360 - for ...reasons? - didn't allow me to, saying that the new Gamertag I choose was already in use :/ ), but now I noticed that I'm no more able
to log in with my old account and that I must download my "new" profile to continue using Xbox Live (I'm still able to use my "old" Gamertag offline), and this brings me to my question:

Am I able to transfer the old save files associated to my previous Gamertag to my "new" one?

I have not created a new account, just used the "Change Gamertag" feature (so I just edited my "username"); as you can see I'm currently a Silver user and I NEVER used the Cloud Saving feature.

Most of my saves are stored both in my console and in a USB flash drive, but since some of them (e.g. Dark Souls) don't allow to make multiple copies I keep only 1 local copy (on console HDD).

I still didn't tried to download my profile, I tought to ask to you before doing something I might regret

No because the system does not know the difference if you were to change it to a name with different capitalization it would not let you cause the new name is same as the old one sorry.

Ok, since nobody is answering I do it by myself (for players who can find themselves in my same situation): I downloaded my "new" profile and this simply replaced the "old" one.

I lose NONE of my savefiles and all data stored on my USB flash drives are now bond to "", my new Gamertag.

The only thing that I lost is my custom background, everything else works as before.

Ok, since nobody is answering I do it by myself (for players who can find themselves in my same situation): I downloaded my "new" profile and this simply replaced the "old" one.

I lose NONE of my savefiles and all data stored on my USB flash drives are now bond to "", my new Gamertag.

The only thing that I lost is my custom background, everything else works as before.

Graeme, could you try retrieving your most recent cloud saved data for this game?

This can be done by highlighting GTA V > pressing the Menu button > Manage game & add-ons > saved data > highlight your gamertag and hit A > select “remove from this console”.

Open GTA V after doing this procedure and wait until your progress is synced.
However, if the issue persists, you may want to contact Rockstar support regarding how to retrieve your GTA online character.

To clarify, after you deleted the save, did you start a new file and save with that? If the previous save was overwritten, unfortunately there isn't a way to retrieve it. Can you clarify what happens when you try to connect to Xbox Live?

I was to at a few stages having issues with cloud-saves but they appeared to fix themselves over a day. It was with Black Ops 3 and would say it couldn't retrieve save but I went past that and it worked after a few minutes. Keep me posted.
