The 7,200 RPM 2.5" drives seem to top out at 1TB. I bought one, but now I kinda wish I'd just bought a 5,400 RPM 2TB drive instead, such as the one you listed, spacman. I'd rather have the extra space than shave just a few seconds off loading times. That
one you listed is a good price too.

Of course if you're buying a 3.5" drive, you can get high capacity and 7,200 RPM, but that has to be externally powered.

  3. I think it depends if you have your console turn your external drive off when you turn your xbox off, and GG that's weird, I bought a seagate 2TB USB 3.0 today, it works perfect with my Xbox and is almost silent. This is what I got> eBay - Page Not Found

I own that external too (backing up financial records not using on One). Anyone who's looking at Seagate's be careful the "Slim" has a large failure rate so the ""Expansion" is a better option if you're going Seagate.

  5. Unfortunately, I threw away the packaging, so I couldn't recall which Seagate I actually picked up (Randver's post made me nervous), so I looked it up on Amazon and found it there. I can't copy and paste since I'm using the IE app on my console, but I wrote
it down so you guys can look it up if you want; it's called the Seagate Expansion STBX2000401 2TB 2.5-inch USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive. It's nice and small, but doesn't have the "slim" attached to it - despite that, it looks quite nice sitting near
my Xbox One just like it was always meant to be there. I picked it up at Best Buy, which according to Amazon, wasn't the best buy after all because I could've saved $5 if I had apparently ordered it from Amazon. Oh well... :|

That's the one Baz and I own. It still has failure complaints but not as bad as the "Slim" version. (See Amazon reviews specifically 1 stars)

If your going to game off an external ( not recommended in my opinion but....) I'd recommend a WD ( or even better a Fantom). Just for storage the Seagate should be fine.

  7. I had my external hard drive arrive yesterday, it's a Toshiba HDTB110EK3BA 1TB Stor.E Basics USB 3.0. I ordered from Amazon UK for £45. Only played one game on it so far which was Forza Horizon 2. Seems to run fine though so far. No problems resuming
games from it using Instant On mode.

I've had to make sure that the device doesn't completely power off though when on Instant On, otherwise it won't download game updates.

Well I have the same exact External HDD as GG has and it is an expansion+, for about a month now and it is awesome. No issues DL games and running games off of it. Randver wrote-If your going to game off an external ( not recommended
in my opinion but....) Why is that? I have no issues and run several games off of it especially all the EA access games.

I usually DL all the current games onto my internal HDD and all the GOLD and past titles over a year old or least played onto the EXTERNAL HDD. Load times are the same and gameplay from cod to bf to need for speed are smooth and the same. I have had no updating
issues, because when the console is off the blue light goes on my Seagate notifying me that it is DL updates at the moment. Like GG said it compliments my XBOX ONE beautifully. I have placed Velcro on the back of the EHDD and placed it above the console on
    the wall. Looks amazing.

Most external drives aren't designed for continuous data transfer, they get hot. External setups with fans or at a minimum large vented cases (preferably aluminum) will disperse the heat better. Docking stations if the One sees them as external rather than
internal would also be a better option.

Basically if your buying the cheap external drives designed for backup duties then expect them to be disposable if your gaming off them. They aren't going to last the decade or so they normally would under normal circumstances.

They are also pulling power from your console so going the powered external route is also a better option. Best option.....replace your internal.

  11. If anyone replaces their internal HDD and attempts to go onto Xbox Live, they will void their console, their profile, and their account which includes ALL of their digital content (games, apps, movies, shows, music, etc.) and be banned for life from the
service - so, no I don't think that is such a good idea and certainly not the best option.

People are already doing it and I haven't heard of anyone having of the things happen to them that you listed. Gaming sites have even done it and posted the results. It was done all the time on the 360.

I honestly don't know how Microsoft would even know. You're confusing a simple storage upgrade with mod-chipping or some other scandalous modification to the system.

All it does is the void the warranty and in a matter of weeks that be irrelevant to those of us who purchased it day one.

Just to clarify......You used "will", Microsoft uses "may" in their ToS. (I'm already guessing your response will be a cut/paste of the ToS.)

This was asked all the time last gen. You can still buy knockoff hard drives for the 360 on Ebay and Amazon. Saying they can do something and actually doing it are two very different things.

This is the one I got.

    www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=sr_1_1

It's the same one that Major Nelson uses.

    It's 7200 speed as well.

Now for some reason this link is going to the product on Amazon but sold and dispatched by "Value Deal".

I didn't pay this much for the product and I expect that if you keep looking at Amazon you'll see the same item available ACTUALLY from Amazon but for less.

Good to know, OP (oh, that might get confusing). I just got a Seagate 2TB 3.0 USB and had no idea if it would work properly or as fast as some of these guys are saying.

It doesn't really matter about the speed. The internal hdd is only 5,400rpm anyway. As long as its USB 3.0 your fine. Oh and plug it into the rear USB port.

Thanks for yr help. Can seem to find if it runs at 7200rpm tho.
