Restrictions to old console after licence transfer

Hi,

I'm not sure what happens to the initial console after a licence transfer is made to another.

If I do a licence transfer from console A to console B, are the games, that are already on console A, still accessible to be played by any user ?

Hi, to transfer content licences associated with your console you must sign in to the console with the profile used to purchase the content. Once signed in go to Settings > account > billing options and select licence transfer following the on screen instructions to transfer the licences to the new console so other profiles can use the content. Content can not be transfered across profiles only across consoles - hope this helps

Any games or dlc you own on your current console will not be playable on your new one until you transfer the licence to it.

Doing this removes the licence from the old console making the games unplayable on that one.

A licence transfer is different thing to downloading your profile/gamertag.

 

No, once the license transfer is completed and you've redownloaded the DLC to the new console only the original purchaser will be able to access content on the old console.

furthermore, if console A doesn't connect to the Internet following the licence transfer, would the games remain playable then ?

 

No. You would have to be connected to Live in order to access the games since the console would no longer have the licenses.

 

Just one last note, if you are attempting to share content with a friend then you are actually committing marketplace theft/fraud and can end up with all the accounts and consoles receiving permanent bans. As long as you are keeping both consoles in your
home you should be ok though.
