Restoring old Xbox Live Account

Hello,

I am getting an Xbox One around Christmas and would like to restore my old Xbox Live account (last used about 6 or so years ago. I believe I know the email address it was registered to (but I no longer use it) and my Gamertag. I just added a generic Gamertag
to my current Microsoft account, but what is the best process to recover my previous account if possible.

Also are the old Xbox Live Arcade games still useable? Pretty sure I have TMNT the Arcade game on there and a few others.

Thanks I appreciate the help. I just rememebered the password for my old account from 360, but I wasn't paying another $50 for 2 gold accounts.

 

One LIVE account, two gamertags, three hours on the phone, four-um might have a solution?

Perhaps one of the service admins used an old backup restoring from a recent system outage and thus a handful of accounts are now mixed up or something along these lines.

I suggest recovering that email password's if you don't know it, if you cannot contact xbox support via phone to see if they can help to recover your old gamertag back.

add: sign in here at xbox.com to see if its your old gamertag, if so when Christmas comes along you are able you use that tag.

 

Cheers for your help, turned out to be a different email (even older than the other one), can't believe some of the games I used to play, Too Human for one. From what I have read there isnt an easy way to transfer this Gamertag to my current Microsoft Account,
but I guess I can worry about that another time

you can change your email alias here:
https://account.microsoft.com/ once signed in click on "Your Info" tab then click on "Manage your sign-in email or phone number " it will request your password, sign in again and you're able to change the email alias there.

Make the new email alias primary and then done!, remove the old email if you want too.
