Resolution,definiton question

First of all, i gotta say ive tried to answer myself this question through research but i cant really reach a satisfying conclusion. With all this stuff about xbox one upscaling native 720P etc etc, all i want to know is the following: if i have
a full HD hdtv(lg ps70 50'' to b more precise, which i know it may be the best but it still works fine after 4 years, works the same as when i bought it) should i set my output option on both the xbox 360, xbox one(or any console for that matter) to 1080P
or to 720P or do i have to switch back and forth based on the native definition of the game? Is it true that for example Killer Instinct looks better if i set my otuput to 720P than if i have it on 1080P which is the optimal for my tv? HELP please i would
really appreciate it and im sorry if this is sort of a stupid question but i do need to know which would be the best setup for my games. It would make sense to just leave it at 1080P , but if the upscaler makes it look worse then whats the point? Thank you

Still curious about the 1360x738 option and how that works though.

 

There was initially a filtering problem that caused upscaled content (like KI) to exhibit black crush and other nastiness. That was resolved in the last system update. Now you can leave your Xbox One set to 1080p and everything should be fine.

 

The upscaler was fixed in the recent update, now games will look infinitely better in 1080p or their respective upscale. Especially Dead Rising 3, man that game can be beautiful...and also have over 1000 zombies on screen

Yep. For instance Killer Instinct will now look much better in 1080p than 720p.

If a tv was only 720p, would you set it at 1080p or 720p in the console display settings, and would it make any difference?

 

If set it to auto detect and let it display at 720p.

 

Thanks Rippen... Patiently waiting for wife approval to pick up an Ultra HD/4K telly a bit later this year. I have a 42inch Sony Bravia LCD (an older tv now) upstairs that is 1080p, but I won a 42inch Samsung plasma at work that is only 720p... The wife
wanted the Samsung downstairs as it looked better, and the picture actually looked better for the 360 games at 720p than on the 1080p box...

You know what they say... Happy wife...

the TV and select 720p. If you have an oddball TV that supports both 1080p and 720p input, but only has a 720p display, then I would test and see which plays better - the scaler on the Xbox One or the scaler on the TV.

 

Does the xbox1 support 4k? I could of sworn I read something like that on the box it came in or the instructions or something?

 

Well, they're claiming that the supplied HDMI lead is 4k compatible (whatever that might mean).
