Resolution Defaulting to 480p with LG C2

I have my Series X directly connected to my LG C2 using the provided high speed HDMI cable. Every so often the Xbox will default to 480p resolution on startup and be stuck there until restarting my Xbox and TV multiple times and trying to tweak the settings. When this first happens the 4K TV details screen shows none of the features being supported with my tv despite the tv supporting all of them.

Is there a way to prevent this from happening or easily fix it when it does? When everything works I am able to play games in 120hz mode or 4K but whenever this happens it takes me up to half an hour to get things straightened out

    :)

There are countless articles on the internet right now recommending the LG C2 as one of the best TV's to use with an Xbox Series X to take advantage of all of the features. If what you say is true then it'd be nice for someone from LG or Microsoft to acknowledge this officially so people don't get burned when they buy a $1300+ television, run into technical issues, and the answer is just "these two devices are incompatible". I spoke with a Microsoft hardware person using the phone support line today and created a ticket. It sounds like similar issues may have been seen before but they did not acknowledge this being a known issue with LG OLED televisions and the current generation of Xbox.

Have you tried connecting to other TV? Just for us to check if issue persist when connecting to other 4k TV. This is to isolate of what is causing the problem.

Is the Xbox Console updated? Please provide Xbox Console system version.

    • OS Version: 10.0.22621.2864 (xb_flt_2211ni.221130-1745)
    • Shell Version: 2211.0.2211.28001
What troubleshooting steps you have done so far?

    • Restarting both the tv and xbox using hard restarts and not just putting them in sleep mode
    • Switching the video settings on the xbox from auto-detect to HDMI/DVI and back to auto-detect
    • Resetting the xbox console
    • Switching which HDMI port the xbox is plugged into on the TV. The LG C2 has four HDMI ports that are all version 2.1 so all of them support 4K 120hz.
Are you part of the Xbox insider?

    • No
Have you tried the troubleshooting steps from this link Troubleshooting 4K and HDR | Xbox Support? If not yet, we recommend performing the steps and see it fix the issue.

    • Yes, I have tried the troubleshooting steps and no they did not resolve the issue
I do not have a definitive workaround for this issue, but what seems to work is going into the LG C2 tv settings and turning off 4K mode in combination with restarting both the tv and the xbox. Typically I disable 4K mode, turn off the tv, turn the tv back on, re-enable 4K mode on the tv, turn the tv off, turn the tv back on again, turn the xbox back on and sometimes that seems to work. Sometimes just restarting both the xbox and the tv resolves the issue automatically.

    Speculation on root cause:

One common thing that seems to trigger this is playing 4K Blu-rays using the xbox Blu-ray app when the xbox is set to 120hz mode. I have not used the Blu-ray app with other formats (normal blu-ray or DVD) so those could also potentially trigger the problem. Changing the xbox to 60hz mode before playing 4K Blu-rays with the Blu-ray app seems to prevent the issue from occurring in that specific case.

I've seen the issue happen sometimes too when I exit a game to go to the main xbox screen and the HDMI connection is no longer recognized by my tv so it stops displaying the xbox. Upon restarting the xbox the issue presented itself but this was resolved by restarting both the xbox and tv again.
